Org. Setting and Reporting These positions are located within the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). The Air Operations Officers will be based in Bamako, Kidal, Mopti, Tessalit, Tombouctou, Menaka and Gao. The Associate Air Operations Officer reports to the Chief Air Region.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Associate Air Operations Officer will carry out the following duties:

• Supports the Mission's requirements with operational, logistical and general support tasks and, as such, is responsible for the planning, coordination, monitoring and execution of all activities/projects/services related to air operations. The operational tasks often involve the deployment of troops/military observers and UN personnel, verification, reconnaissance, close air support and monitoring missions, as well as "Search and Rescue" operations if required by an operational situation or requested by a host country. The logistical tasks include support to military operations and MEDEVAC/CASEVAC missions, as well as food, fuel and cargo resupply to military contingents and UN hubs, transportation of UN and authorized non-UN personnel, airlift of contingents and their equipment during deployment/rotation/withdrawal phase, intermission flight tasks. The Aviation Section in MINUSMA also liaises with the governmental interlocutors, UN agencies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and companies contracted by the United Nations. The Aviation works closely with the Mission's senior leadership and supports a range of politically- related and VIP requirements. Please note that the United Nations Aviation does not own aircraft and operates with the civilian air assets contracted by the United Nations under the "Long Term Aircraft Charter Agreement" and military air assets provided by the Troops Contributing Countries under the "Letter of Assist".
• Supervises the Current Operations Cell which includes the Flight Following and Duty Officers.
• Develops Air Tasking Orders/flight schedules, monitors aircraft utilization, liaises with relevant aviation authorities for the coordination of flight clearances, oversees and documents flying hours incurred by the Mission aircraft and produces the Monthly Aviation Report for the submission to the Air Transport Section/UNHQ.
• Provides the situation briefings to aircrew members.
• Assists in the development and implementation of the Mission Aviation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensures compliance with the regulations and Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs) of the host nation CAA, ICAO Annex 6 to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, Company Operations Manual, Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) Aviation Manual and guidelines stipulated in the Department of Field Support (DFS) Aviation Safety Program.
• Liaises with concerned authorities in the host country within the framework of the assigned duties.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Aviation Management, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Air Transportation Management or Air Traffic Control, or graduations from equivalent military establishment, is required. Training as an Air Crew, or Aeronautical Engineer, or Air Traffic Controller, or Flight Dispatcher qualification, or equal military certification is desriable. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of education, professional training, certification in air transport, and 2 additional years of work experience in air transportation-related occupation, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in air transportation operations or aviation safety on position directly related to the coordination of air transport operations in the national or international environment is required. Experience in managing air operations/transportation of international, peacekeeping, field or military nature is required. Managerial experience in air charter agreements is desirable. Knowledge of UN financial rules and regulations is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French language is desirable.
