Job Description

Job Overview: The Housing Specialist will work with the Referral and Intake teams to provide on-going research and analysis of housing availability in Northern California counties. The Specialist will also be responsible in evaluating housing facilities and establishing relationships with landlords and hotel management.

Major Responsibilities:

· Research and identify safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for newly arriving refugees in compliance with established program requirements.

· Conduct ongoing outreach to current and potential landlords, property managers, building strong working relationships with the goal of increasing access to housing.

· Coordinate closely with housing staff in IRC NorCal to ensure complementarity of activities.

· Maintain housing availability information updated on ASIP application website

· Develop digital and hard copy materials on:

· Housing availability

· The process on accessing and paying for utilities

· Basic household supply checklist

· Information on accessing social services

· Work with HQ staff on continued analysis of housing in California

· Complete case notes related to housing assistance provided to IRC and non- IRC clients

· Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s or Associate degree preferred. Professional experience in lieu of education will be considered.

Work Experience:

· Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience required.

· Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

· Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

· Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.

· Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.

· Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by IRC’s clients is desired; including, Dari, and/or Pashto.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research and problem-solving purposes.

· Working knowledge of accounting software such as Microsoft Dynamics a plus.

Working Environment:

· Partial remote, partial in-office work.

· May require occasional work out of partner agencies’ offices.

· May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
