Consultant, Talent Acquisition & HR Associate

This is a 3-month consulting role which can be based in any of the countries in Africa in which WRI is registered as well as the Netherlands. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application.

Program Overview:

WRI Operations team supports the crucial front-line work of the organization, they directly interact and work with Donors, Partners, Government agencies, Statutory bodies, Trustees, Vendors, and Consultants in fielding their inquiries, providing support at all the fronts and solving problems. So that the WRI programs can be implemented without any hurdles and the program staff and researchers can develop high quality research documents, plans and implement the programs at the field level.

WRI Operations team strive for operational excellence across all functions starting with the recruitment, retention, and management of WRI’s staff, our most important asset. We manage our endowment, the contributions entrusted to us, and our facilities in ways that are in line with our values and advance our mission. We maintain strict budgetary planning and financial controls to ensure that all contributions are managed in compliance with donors’ wishes.

Job highlights

As a Talent Acquisition and HR Associate, you will play an integral role in providing support to our Talent Acquisition team and our staff located throughout the region. In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the hiring of talent for WRI with employees who will make a measurable difference in our organization and the environment. You will work closely with the Talent Acquisition Manager for Europe and Africa based in the Netherlands. You will support Africa-based searches.

You will work with the TA and HR teams in WRI Europe and WRI Africa Offices.

Ideally, you would be available full-time during core work hours though we would also consider a minimum availability of three days/week for an initial period of 3 months.

Job Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition (65%):

  • Support the recruitment of entry to mid-level positions
  • Support the Talent Acquisition team on national and international searches
  • Review all applications that meet the minimum requirements for the assigned requisitions
  • Conduct initial phone screenings with potential candidates
  • Coordinate virtual interviews between candidates, hiring managers, and panel interview participants across multiple locations to include tracking hiring team participation and communicating schedule details with candidates
  • Ensure an excellent candidate experience from application to hire

HR (35%):

  • Support the development and communication of HR policies to both anglophone and francophone employees while providing guidance and support with respect to all areas of HR, helping to ensure reliable access to up-to-date, relevant information and build cohesion between office locations.
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Participate actively in new-hire onboarding training by coordinating and leading specific sessions.
  • Conduct audits of HR programs and processes and recommend improvements.
  • Support in contract management such as generating employment contracts, contract extensions, offer letters and promotions letters.
  • Provide additional support as per the request of the Regional HR Manager.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelors degree
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of full-time work experience related to the functions of human resources, talent acquisition, talent attraction strategies, as well as full-cycle recruiting with advanced proficiency in using Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Languages: You are proficient in written and spoken English and French
  • Previous experience working in recruitment in multiple countries with a strong understanding of the African context
  • Experience in HRIS systems preferably ADP
  • Familiarity with labor laws of countries within the region
  • Previous experience working independently, remotely, across different geographies and time zones with limited supervision
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position will be based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

The consultant offering the best overall value will be selected. For this position, skills/experience and requested fee are considered to be of approximately equal importance.

Compliance Requirements: WRI receives funding from a variety of sources, including governments and other non-governmental organizations. In addition to WRI’s standard contract terms, certain funder conditions may apply.
