WRI Africa generates actionable knowledge across three strategic pillars: vital landscapes, thriving and resilient cities, and institutional and economic transformation. https://www.wri.org/wri-africa WRI Operations team supports the crucial front-line work of the organization, they directly interact and work with Donors, Partners, Government agencies, Statutory bodies, Trustees, Vendors, and Consultants in fielding their inquiries, providing support at all the fronts and solving problems. So that the WRI programs can be implemented without any hurdles and the program staff and researchers can develop high quality research documents, plans and implement the programs at the field level. WRI Operations team strive for operational excellence across all functions starting with the recruitment, retention and management of WRI’s staff, our most important asset. We manage our endowment, the contributions entrusted to us, and our facilities in ways that are in line with our values and advance our mission. We maintain strict budgetary planning and financial controls to ensure that all contributions are managed in compliance with donors’ wishes.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the HR Manager for WRI Africa, you will help provide support to our staff located in Rwanda as well as other countries in the region. You will be key to managing our HR process and ensuring smooth functioning mainly in the Rwanda office and provide additional support to other countries when needed. You are an independent thinker who is able to help solve complex problems and advise on internal processes. You will enable the delivery of our HR solutions and priorities, be data-driven and detail-oriented. You are a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and professional experience in HR administrative roles. You have the ability to collaborate across a global network and manage remote relationships.

What will you do:

HR Administration (50%):

  • Administer HR policies and processes, including staff onboarding, transfers, changes, and terminations. Processes required documents through the HR system to ensure accurate record-keeping
  • Generate local/regional employment contracts, contract extensions, offer letters, and promotion letters
  • Be a liaison between the staff and medical providers, pension administrators and coordinate health insurance onboarding and offboarding for all staff
  • Support relocation, immigration and other responsibilities related to staffing administration, including visa application processes
  • Administration, such as leave management, maintenance of staff records, compensation
  • Maintain official staff personnel files and ensure updated HRIS

HR Policies and Procedures (20%):

  • Support the development and communication of HR policies to employees while providing guidance and support with respect to all areas of HR, ensuring reliable access to up-to-date, relevant information and build cohesion between office locations
  • Manage and document HR policies to ensure all employees can see the policies stored in one place
  • Conduct audits of HR programs and processes and recommend improvements
  • Help prepare the performance review process

Employee Relations (10%):

  • Facilitate a healthy employee relations environment by providing timely and accurate responses to employment related queries
  • Provide guidance and assist in employee relations issues and concerns, including termination and off-boarding processes

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding (20%):

  • Lead WRI Africa internship program
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition Team and support recruitment process for staff and interns
  • Support the recruitment process by interviewing candidates, coordinating work sample exercise, and performing reference checks
  • Provide support for employee transitions and transfers of existing staff to new positions within WRI
  • Help conduct new employee orientation and train employees on HR policies and procedures
  • Support remote and flexible work administration with Operations/ Facilities or other teams

What will you need:

  • Education: You have completed a bachelor's degree in HR, business or non-profit management, public administration, or related field with HR qualification at a diploma level or a professional HR qualification
  • Experience: You have 6+ years of relevant professional experience working in Human Resources administrative roles, ideally within an international non-profit matrixed organization
  • Experience developing HR related new systems and policies to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Experience in HRIS systems preferably ADP
  • Familiarity with labor laws of countries within the region
  • Ability to handle confidential information discretely.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Experience working with proprietary software applications.
  • Languages: You are proficient in written and spoken French and English
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

Potential Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
