Scope of Work:
The Sign Language Interpreter will ensure effective communication and accessibility for all participants in Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) programs, including both individuals with disabilities and non-disabled participants during ToT.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited, to the following:
Interpreting Safety Content:
- Interpret training sessions, discussions, activities, material, and other spoken situations related to HMA and EORE using an appropriate sign language. Ensure that the translation respects the language and cultural background of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, as well as the diverse needs of all participants.
Facilitating Communication:
- Accurately interpret signs from deaf and hard of hearing participants into fluent Arabic for other participants, trainers, and staff. Ensure that all safety messages and educational content are clearly communicated.
Oversight of Interpreting Services:
- Direct the discussion between other participants who have knowledge on both Arabic and sign language within the training activities to ensure compliance with program standards and policies. Ensure that all interpreting services meet the quality and accuracy required for HMA and EORE content.
Mentoring and Training:
- Provide feedback and guidance to staff and participants to support their skill development. Participate in mentoring Sign language EORE material to enhance the overall effectiveness of interpreting services.
Collaborative Preparation:
- Collaborate with trainers and training coordinators to gain a thorough understanding of HMA and EORE concepts. This will help in accurately translating technical and safety information for all participants.
Emergency Communication:
- Provide clear information and orientation to deaf and hard of hearing participants during emergency situations, ensuring they have the necessary information to respond appropriately to safety hazards.
Ethical Standards:
- Adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct for sign language interpreters, ensuring professionalism and ethical behaviour in all interactions within the ToT.
Technological Support:
- Utilize relevant technologies, such as speech-to-text transcription tools, to support accessibility in various settings, including classrooms and training environments.
