Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which re-positioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. The Resident Coordinator Office actively aids the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in crafting, implementing, overseeing, and reporting on UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks. To uphold accountability, transparency, and seamless communication with governmental and international partners, the RCO seeks the expertise of a professional translator to meticulously translate its 2023 Annual Results report from English to Arabic, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality and precise rendition. Under the overall guidance of Strategic Planning and RCO Team Leader, the selected candidate will report to Development Coordination Officer for Data Management, Results Monitoring and Reporting. The incumbent will be tasked to provide an accurate and complete translation of a wide range of documents including/ the 2023 UN Country Team Annual Results Report as well as a results’ infographic. Duties and Responsibilities The individual contractor will be responsible for the following:  Provide accurate and quality translation of the 2022 2023 UN Country Team Annual Results Report (from English to Arabic) within the agreed timeframe.  Provide and accurate and quality translation of the 2023 UN country Team Results infographic within the agreed timeframe

Qualifications/special skills

Diploma in English language obtained at recognized institution is required and specialization translation is a bonus. Relevant practical experience (at least 3 years) as a translator/interpreter of English to Arabic and vice versa is required. Familiarity with UN jargons, development terminology/acronyms and previous experience with translation/interpretation of UN documents and/or workshops is an asset

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required

Additional Information

Academic Qualifications A diploma in English language obtained at a recognized institution is required, and specialization translation is a desireable Experience: Relevant practical experience (at least 3 years) as a translator/interpreter of English to Arabic and vice versa is required. Familiarity with UN jargons, development terminology/acronyms and previous experience with translation/interpretation of UN documents and/or workshops is an asset. Skills: Excellent command of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft word is required.
