Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the 10 most serious global public health threats facing humanity. AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents. As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.
In response, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), known as the Quadripartite has developed this practical toolkit for engaging media in AMR. The aim is to equip individuals, organizations and networks with tools for media engagement on AMR at subnational, national, regional and global levels to increase public awareness of AMR, including policymakers, civil society and communities.
The Web Platforms team of UNEP is recruiting two Online Volunteers to support our work in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), specifically by translating the contents of the Antimicrobial Resistance Toolkit for media engagement from English to Kiswahili. We are looking for candidates who can offer meticulous translation and language revision and support precise terminology management, thus enhancing the accuracy, clarity and consistency of our resources for media engagement. The Online Volunteers will be expected to: - translate the toolkit, which is approx. 40 pages long, including graphics, photo captions, tags, SEO descriptions etc; - follow UNEP terminology and language practice, including proposing new terms to include in our terminology lists; and - ensure the translation is accurate and in line with our communications guidelines. The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the document in the original language, along with requested timelines for completion, and will receive guidance on the target audience and our communications guidelines, as well as other guidance as needed. NB: Online Volunteers who deliver automated translations from Google or other AI tools will be disqualified and their assignment terminated.
