The UNEP Knowledge Repository (https://wedocs.unep.org/) is a central hub for the organization’s digital publications and scientific knowledge products. It ensures global access to authoritative, multilingual environmental information in alignment with UNEP’s mission. The Knowledge Repository is being rebuilt in DSpace 8 and preparations are underway to migrate content. Currently, a clean-up initiative is underway to ensure entries are accurate, consistent and aligned with international metadata and cataloguing standards. This is a remote, unpaid assignment in accordance with United Nations Volunteer (UNV) terms. Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation from UNV upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.

The Web Platforms team of UNEP is seeking eight Online Volunteers to support metadata and entry revision for the UNEP Knowledge Repository in DSpace. This work will help ensure metadata accuracy, usability and compliance with cataloguing standards. This is a remote, unpaid assignment in accordance with the terms of the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme.

The Online Volunteers will: • Review and revise assigned repository entries to ensure accurate and complete metadata • Identify and correct inconsistencies in author entries, subject terms and descriptive information • Apply controlled vocabulary and standardized tagging based on GEMET, UNBIS, AGROVOC, UNTERM, UNSTATS • Propose refinements to metadata fields and support alignment with Dublin Core • Ensure consistency across entries in series and collections • Provide quality checks for completeness and coherence • Work within timelines set by UNEP and submit regular progress updates.
