The Adolescent Development and Participation (ADAP) team at UNICEF LACRO organizes regular meetings aimed at fostering youth engagement and advancing adolescent development initiatives across the Latin America and Caribbean region. These meetings, occurring once or twice per month, serve as crucial platforms for collaboration and dialogue among various stakeholders.

The meetings convened by ADAP LACRO encompass two primary types:

  1. Meetings between Focal Points: These gatherings bring together focal points involved in ADAP initiatives throughout the region. Discussions revolve around strategy development, program implementation, and sharing best practices to enhance the effectiveness of youth-focused interventions.

  2. Meetings involving Youth Participation: These gatherings involve direct engagement with young people from diverse backgrounds across Latin America and the Caribbean. These sessions provide a space for young voices to be heard, offering insights, perspectives, and recommendations on issues pertinent to their communities.

We are currently seeking five Online Volunteers to provide translation and interpretation support for meetings conducted by the Adolescent Development and Participation team, facilitating seamless communication between Spanish and English speakers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time interpretation (Spanish/English and English/Spanish) during online meetings, ensuring clear communication between speakers.
  • Maintain accuracy and fidelity to the original message, capturing nuances and context to facilitate effective understanding.
  • Collaborate closely with the Adolescent Development and Participation team to understand meeting objectives and topics, and to anticipate translation needs.

The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the meeting objectives and topics beforehand and will receive guidance on the target audience and as well as other guidance as needed.

The Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to build connections with the Adolescent Development and Participation (ADAP) Team at UNICEF LACRO. This collaboration offers a unique chance to gain insights into the critical role translation plays in advancing UNICEF's mission and goals in the Latin America and Caribbean Region (LACRO).

Candidates should be fluent in Spanish and English. Familiarity with technical terms related to Adolescent Development and Participation and the UN system will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset.
