This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that was established in July 1946 and whose objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. WHO's primary role is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system. WHO's main areas of work are health systems; health through the life-course; noncommunicable and communicable diseases: preparedness, surveillance and response: and corporate services.

The incumbent will be based at the WHO CO in Uzbekistan and work under supervision of WHO Representative in Uzbekistan. He/she will work in close contact with all the members of the CO. The role of the incumbent is that of a specialist and an expert in translations both written and verbal from English to Russian and Uzbek and vice versa. He/she is part of the CO team. Proactive role in seeking guidance from colleagues, searching and analysing evidence, and usage of WHO prepared guidelines is foreseen

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of WHO Representative in Uzbekistan or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the National UNVolunteer will undertake the following tasks: Ensuring efficient, timeliness and qualitative translation. Review the documents to be translated. Translate Documents English to Russian/Uzbek Russian/Uzbek to English). Ensure efficient, timely and qualitative translation is conducted, the usage of proper terminology (English, Russian and Uzbek based on the nature of documents), accuracy in language and structure is maintained, confidentiality of translated materials is respected. Proofread and edit final translated versions. Provide simultaneous/consecutive/whispered interpretation services during meetings and/or trainings organized by WHO on various topics. Ensure simultaneous translation (with translation booth, headset and necessary system/ equipment provided) at WHO country office related events and workshops. Perform terminology research to ensure the accuracy and appropriatenessof all translations Working closely with the Communications Consultant, prepare translations of visibility products Be responsible for ensuring quallty and accuracy of the entire document before submission Travels with WHO staff on their missions to the field for interpretation and other assistance, as needed. Responds to queries relating to the area of responsibility. Takes notes at meetings; takes and transcribes from dictation, recordings and handwritten drafts Performs other duties as required.

Translation experience ni scientific or medical environment is highly desired. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; Accuracy and professionalism ni document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team ofinternational and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency ni various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet, and office technology equipment; Self-motivated, ability to workwith minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Soundsecuritvawareness

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Tashkent. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

As of May 2023, national UN Volunteer Specialists in Tashkent, Uzbekistan receive USD 820/month as a Volunteer Living Allowance.
