How can you make a difference?

The Palestinian Programme is UNICEF’s cross-sectoral programme aiming to further the realization of Palestinian refugee children’s rights, and to improve access to basic services for Palestinian children and women in Lebanon. Increasingly the programme is also reaching out to the very vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian children and women living among the Palestinian refugee community. The programme encompasses the key dimensions of UNICEF’s Country Programme: Child Survival, Child Development (including Youth and Adolescent Development) and Child Protection. UNICEF works closely with UNRWA, and several CSO consortia to deliver services and interventions to Palestine refugees in Lebanon.

Under the close supervision and guidance of the Programme Manager (Chief Palestinian Programme), the HR Intern will support the Palestinian Programme in Lebanon (PPL) by carrying out a range of procedural, administrative, and operational tasks, to help develop, implement and monitor the country programme, ensuring timely and effective delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.

The HR Intern will work in the Palestinian Programme in Beirut Office and may be required to travel to UNICEF field offices and the Palestinian camps and gatherings in Lebanon.

As part of regular ongoing responsibilities, the HR Intern will be required to:

Support in monitoring the recruitment process of PPL’s partner NGOs

  1. Aid in the review the job advertisements of partner NGOs
  2. Review the entire screening process of candidates applying to positions in partner NGOs under UNICEF’s projects
  3. Act as a panel member from UNICEF in the interviews with partner NGOs
  4. Review the contract details of selected candidates
  5. Ensure that contracts are timely signed and archived

Provide support in auditing previous recruitments at PPL partner NGOs

  1. Review the contracts of current staff at partner NGOs
  2. Take over and follow-up on the most recent recruitments
  3. Archive all contracts and cross-check their details with the programme budgets.

Support in the development of an HR capacity building plan for partner NGOs

  1. Design a capacity building plan to improve the knowledge of partner NGOs in HR-related topics with a focus on recruitment and performance review.
  2. Deliver the corresponding HR trainings to partner NGOs.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Enrolled in a degree programme in an undergraduate or graduate school in Human Resource Management. Or have graduated within the past 2 years.
  • Previous experience in HR is desired.
  • Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office and computer skills (MS applications, especially Word, Publisher and Excel).
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is essential. French is considered an asset.
  • A high level of individual responsibility, commitment and initiative.
  • Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

Administrative guidance:

  • Supervisor: Programme Manager (Chief Palestinian Programme)
  • The Intern will provide her/himself with a laptop.
  • UNICEF will provide a temporary desk and access to Internet and printing facilities at the UNICEF offices.
  • Successful candidates are expected to arrange for the visa requirements, if and when required.
  • UNICEF Lebanon may assist with the visa procedures; however, all visa related costs must be borne by the Intern.
  • The selected intern will be required to share proof of health/medical insurance prior to contract issuance. Health/Medical Insurance costs will be borne by the intern.
