Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

For the past years, UNITAR has been working with Colombian communities affected by conflict to build peace, reconciliation, resilience and historical memory. As a result of this effort, a website that showcases the stories of the participating communities and artwork they created was created. At the moment, the website is available in Spanish but we're looking forward to have it translate to English, so it can reach a broader audience.

The Colombian society has been undergoing more than 50 years of armed conflict. Generations of Colombians carry the memories of their personal experiences of violence, exclusion, and protracted conflict. Their way of looking at the world has been shaped by these experiences and the differences in perspectives keep standing in the way to sustainable reconciliation.

The project was designed to contribute to the peace and reconciliation process in Colombia by strengthening the resilience and conflict prevention capacity of young people, their families, and the communities to which they belong in vulnerable areas of different territories of the country.

The UNVs selected for this task will have to translate from Spanish to English a set of 60 short stories (10 each) that will be displayed inside the website. As the stories have been left as the members of the community wrote them, it is important to have a deep understanding of the Spanish language, and desirably of its Latin American variation, as many stories have local expressions embedded. Each story is circa. 500 words.

Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word is required.
