Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) – colloquially known as drones – are increasingly recognised by governments around the world as a cost-effective and cutting-edge technology for countries to leapfrog traditional infrastructure development and accelerate the SDGs. In higher income countries, city planners are looking towards UAVs to streamline city operations and enhance the productive value of public services delivery. However, these smart cities applications of UAVs are largely absent in low- and middle-income countries, where UAVs are primarily approached as humanitarian solutions to development challenges and operate in remote areas to enhance last-mile connectivity. This report seeks to bridge this gap by providing city planners from lower and middle-income countries with the knowledge and tools to explore the role of UAVs in smart city development and digital transformation.

We are looking for one creative and motivated online volunteer to support our team with creating a report template for our new publication “Smart city applications of UAVs in lower income urban environments”, which consists of approximately 50 pages of text, including tables, graphs, and images.

The online volunteer will be asked to: 1. Design the document following our corporate design guidelines which will be shared with the online volunteer in advance. 2. Produce 4-5 infographics using the content in the publication. 3. Design a 3-5-page policy brief template derived from the publication.

Candidates should be professional graphic designers with previous experience in designing document layouts, have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, good verbal, and written communication skills. Experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is a must. Attention to detail is required.

A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset.
