Duties and Responsibilities

The UNRCO supports the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) in fostering collaboration among UN entities to enhance the impact, efficiency, and effectiveness of the UN's operational activities for development at the country level. As the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General, the RC in Malawi strategically positions the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in alignment with national priorities, development strategies, and plans. The UN in Malawi, in partnership with the government, has developed the Malawi 2024-2028 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). This framework represents the collective support of the UN Development System towards the achievement of Malawi 2063, its First 10-year Implementation Plan 2021-2030 (MIP-1), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the African Union Agenda 2063. To ensure inclusivity and accessibility, the UNRCO in Malawi seeks a qualified sign language interpreter to embed sign language translation in a video explaining the UNSDCF. Under the supervision of the Head of RCO and Strategic Planner and the Communications Officer, the sign language interpreter will provide interpretation services and embed the sign language translation into the UN video. The interpreter will be responsible for • recording the sign language interpretation • ensuring it is seamlessly integrated into the video. The final video should meet standards of clarity, coherence, and accessibility for the hearing-impaired community.

Qualifications/special skills

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Humanities, Linguistics and Sign Language interpretation is required • A minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in sign language interpretation is required is required • Proven capacity to record and embed sign language interpretation into video content is desirable • Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency and accuracy throughout the interpretation and embedding process is desirable.

Languages

• Fluency in English and the relevant sign language used in Malawi is required
