This is a call for applications for the Interpreters/Translators roaster to be used by the Office of the Resident Coordinator. Successful candidates will be contacted for additional personal information in order to create a personal profile for each individual contractor (IC). For the specific task/job, the IC will be contacted and consulted separately. If agreement is reached and the IC commits to fulfilling a task, a PO (contract) will be signed with the IC for the given task.

Duties and Responsibilities The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which re-positioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level - support countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. The Resident Coordinator Office supports the Resident Coordinator and the UNCT in developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework and in all joint activities related to Agenda 2030 in the Republic of Moldova. The UN Resident Coordinator's Office has five core functions:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Economics
  • Partnerships and development finance
  • Data and results management and reporting
  • Communications and advocacy

To ensure smooth communication with government and international partners, RCO will need the services of professional translators/interpreters during a variety of online or in-person meetings, conferences, or other events and translation of various documents.

The individual contractor will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide quality consecutive/simultaneous interpretation during meetings/conferences or other events into and from these languages: English, Romanian, Russian;
  • Provide quality translation of documents into/from English, Romanian, Russian;
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills;
  • Good knowledge of cultural and sensitive aspects of the country;
  • Ensure information confidentiality.

    Qualifications/special skills University degree in Foreign (English) languages obtained at recognized institution or other qualification obtained upon attending formal language training courses. Relevant practical experience (at least 5 years) as a translator/interpreter of English, Romanian, Russian languages. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.

    Languages Excellent knowledge of English, Romanian, Russian is required.

    Additional Information As per UN policy, Consultants and Individual Contractors may not apply for or be appointed to any position in the Professional or above categories and for positions at the FS-6 and FS-7 levels in the Field Service category within six months of the end of their current or most recent service. This restriction does not apply to associate experts (Junior Professional Officers) appointed under the Staff Rules.
