The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has opened the recruitment process for a National Post (with Local salary scale) of the Interpreter for French within the UNHCR and UNICEF funded projects.

Position: Interpreter for French

Period of engagement: 3 months with a possibility of extension

Basic functions: The role of the Interpreter for French is to work with the DRC team and its partners and foster communication between the refugees and the teams, during the implementation of project activities (GBV counseling, individual interviews, provision of legal aid, workshops on different subject, organization of events, orientation and general information, referrals etc.).

Reference: The Interpreter for French refers directly to the Head of Programme/Country Director and works in close cooperation with the Project staff

Specific duties and responsibilities:

• To provide interpreting/translating service during activates organized by DRC team in which the refugee/migrant/asylum seekers and/or their children are participating;
• To provide interpreting/translating service workshops and non-formal education activates;
• To secure mutual understanding between DRC beneficiaries and other actors in AC Krnjaca and in/with schools attended by children accommodated in AC Krnjaca;
• Create a first contact with the beneficiaries and build a trust relationship with them;
• Facilitate effective communication between beneficiaries and DRC staff by providing interpretation and/or translation services, either by telephone or in person;
• Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding and protection issues with vulnerable beneficiaries per need;
• Facilitate the referral of refugees;
• Written translation of documents and materials needed for all project activities from English and/or Serbian to French and vice versa;
• Works collaboratively with other project staff and participate in staff meetings;
• Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications & experience required

• French language diploma or native speaker;
• Experience on refugee/migration related issues would be an asset;
• Knowledge of English language will be an asset.
• Driving license and being an active driver

Skills and Work Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in translation or jobs requiring fluency in French.

• Fluency in spoken and written Serbian;
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);

• Type of contract: National. Please note that the applications of the French native speaker’s language diploma with excellent knowledge of Serbian will be considered only.

• Duty station: Belgrade
