About the job

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has opened the recruitment process for a National Post (with Local salary scale) of the Interpreter for Farsi within the GIZ funded project “Social cohesion of people on the move and local population in Serbia”. The objective of the project is to support social participation of people on the move and local population in the Republic of Serbia though improvement of the work and life skills of people on the move and local population in host communities and through strengthening social interaction and social participation.

Position: Interpreter for Farsi (50 % of the full working hours)

Period of engagement: 3 months with a possibility of extension

Basic functions: The role of the Interpreter for Farsi is to work with the DRC team and its partners and foster communication between people on the move and local population and the teams, during the implementation of the project “Social cohesion of people on the move and local population in Serbia”. Project activities include: different non-formal education workshops organized in and outside the asylum/reception centers for the people on the move and local community, community gathering events attended by people on the move and local population, language classes, IT training and similar.

Reference: The Interpreter for Farsi refers directly to the Head of Programme/Country Director and works in close cooperation with the Project staff.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide interpreting/translating service during activates organized by GIZ/DRC team in which people on the move are participating;
  • To provide interpreting/translating service during non-formal education activates/workshops in which people on the move are participating;
  • to secure mutual understanding between DRC beneficiaries and other actors in AC Obrenovac, RC Adasevci, RC Principovac and RC Sid.
  • to provide written translation when required;
  • Create a first contact with the beneficiaries and build a trust relationship with them;
  • Facilitate effective communication between beneficiaries and DRC staff by providing interpretation and/or translation services, either by telephone or in person;
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding and protection issues with vulnerable beneficiaries per need;
  • Facilitate the referral of refugees;
  • Translation of documents and materials needed for all project activities from English and/or Serbian to Farsi and vice versa;
  • Translates information materials to be disseminated to migrants and refugees;
  • Provide general assistance to his/her Project Coordinator and other project staff during the program activities;
  • Works collaboratively with other project staff and participate in staff meetings;
  • Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications & experience required

  • Farsi language diploma or native speaker;
  • Experience on refugee/migration related issues would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of English language will be an asset.
  • Driving license and being an active driver

Skills and Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in translation or jobs requiring fluency in Farsi.

Key Competencies

  • Problem solving, analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce reports for internal and external use;
  • Fluency in spoken and written Serbian;
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
