Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Regional Office for Central Asia (ROCA), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with duty station in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia, the administrative supervision of the UNODC ROCA Operations Manager and the technical supervision of the Team Leader, Global Field Office Support – ITS.

Responsibilities The Information Technology Assistant will provide ICT services, including daily technical support for desktop and laptop hardware and software, network infrastructure and corporate productivity tools, ICT management systems. The incumbent provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure. The incumbent is responsible for: (i) following UN/UNODC standards for desktop, networks, security and updating UNODC ROCA computing technology facilities including desktop, laptop, and operating systems; (ii) handling troubleshooting and day to day servicing of clients’ practical needs; (iii) promoting a client-oriented approach; (iv) reviewing and guiding on the use of new technologies that will enhance the UNODC ROCA productivity. Within assigned authority, the Information Technology Assistant will be responsible for the following specific duties:

As member of a team provide support to the implementation of UN/UNODC ICT strategies and introduction/implementation of new technologies by: - Complying with corporate information management and technology standards, guidelines, and procedures for the ROCA technology environment. - Assisting in the elaboration of internal policies and procedures on the use of ICT. - Working towards moving the existing data and shared drives to central cloud-based options, as per the UN/UNODC standards and provisioning. - Providing support towards innovation using modern technology like AI, Machine Learning, Big Data, etc.

Assist in ensuring ICT security by restricting administrative rights (where appropriate) to prevent the loading of unauthorized software; ensure that desktop, laptop and server passwords, and related policies and processes are in line with established UN/UNOICT standards.

Contribute to the effective functioning of the UNODC ROCA hardware and software packages by: - Maintaining equipment and acquisition of hardware supplies, making routine repairs and change of hardware electronic components. - Performing software distribution updates. - Performing desktop troubleshooting in conjunction with the Help Desk. - Maintenance and integration of ICT approved software for high impact results (e.g., office management system, electronic registry, etc.).

Ensure efficient networks administration by: - Performing network services such as DHCP, DNS and Active Directory, Squid. - Maintaining the Active Directory users and configuration of folder access rights on network shared drives. - Configuring network printers and providing user access. - Maintaining up-to-date parameters of information for the network clients and electronic mail; providing technical support of Lotus Notes/Domino e-mail/application server under the supervision of the HQ ITS personnel. - Troubleshooting and monitoring of network problems; responding to user needs regarding network access. - Performing backup and restoration procedures for the network shared drives; maintaining backup logs; organizing off-site storage of backups. - Maintaining LAN Infrastructure and Internet connectivity upgrade to meet UNODC requirements in a timely manner. - Providing relevant support to the UNODC Project offices in the Region.

Provide administrative support by: - Providing guidance on and assistance in procurement of new equipment for the UNODC ROCA and projects, providing technical specifications and information on best options in both local and international markets, reviewing quotations and bids. - Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of the software and hardware. - Maintaining the library of reference materials. - Maintaining the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with Procurement Unit personnel.

Ensure facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge by: - Identifying and promoting different systems and applications for optimal content management, knowledge management and sharing, information provision. - Organizing trainings for the ROCA operations and projects staff on ICT issues. - Providing technical support to ROCA operations and projects staff during presentations. - Providing support in designing of templates and reports.

Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.

Perform other work-related duties, as required.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in hardware and software management and application (Microsoft Certification, Cisco Certification) is desirable.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite, i.e. is required, for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. The GGST is a proctored entry-level examination at the duty station. Any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Organization. Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

Work Experience A minimum of seven years of relevant working experience in the field of information technology and information systems technology with emphasis on network and telecommunications facilities administration is required. The minimum number of years of relevant experience is reduced to five for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience in using hardware/software, Unix/Linux, Windows, Microsoft Active Directory, Office 365 suite including SharePoint and PowerApps implementation, Network management including IPv4 subnetting, DHCP, DNS, VLAN and PBR configuration is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Russian and Uzbek is desirable. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise and a competency based interview.
