Work Location Remote/home-based at Jakarta – Indonesia

Expected duration The consultant is expected to deliver all deliverables over a 5-month period from 15 August to 15 January 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

UNEP’s Asia and the Pacific Office geographically serves 51 countries across the region to promote and implement sustainable development solutions. It assists countries of the region pursue sustainability, particularly in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including technical expertise, facilitating access to finance, undertaking cutting-edge science-policy assessments, offering advisory services and strengthening laws, policies, management and governance.

UNEP works with national and local authorities, civil society, other UN organizations, research institutions and the private sector to catalyse the efficient use of the region’s natural assets and reduce the degradation of the environment. The Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment (APRFHE) was established in 2007 to create a platform for national and regional action to enhance and safeguard health and the environment and promote sustainable development of the Asia Pacific region. APRFHE has achieved good progress in raising regional concerns, facilitating member countries, and building collaborative approaches in the environment and health nexus.

Indonesia is the Chair of the Regional Forum for the period 2020-2024 and UNEP is the co-secretariat of APRFHE together with the two regional offices of WHO (WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office and the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office).

UNEP ROAP is looking to recruit a local consultant to provide technical guidance and to support the Indonesia’s Chairship of the Forum.

UNEP ROAP is seeking a local consultant to provide technical guidance and support on the development of the Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment implementation plan under Indonesia’s Chairship.

The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant will be as follows:

The consultant will report to the Programme Management Officer, Asia Pacific Office, UNEP.

The overall supervisor will be: Head, Pollution and Health Unit, Chemicals and Health Branch, Economy Division

Qualifications/special skills Skills: Demonstrated excellence in communications and writing skills; Excellent analytical, programming and report-writing skills; Competent in usage of MS Office programmes (MS Word, Excel, Power point) Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree in environment management, environmental health, or international development and equivalent academic qualifications, or equivalent work experience is required. A first level degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Experience: Familiarity with issues in the area of environment and health (including health aspect of environmental issues); and sound familiarity with national and state contexts and stakeholders required. - At least 3 years of progressive experience in preparation, designing and implementation of international development projects, ideally in the field of environment is required. - Experience in Asia and the Pacific Region, and Regional and Sub-regional bodies is desirable. - Demonstrated experience in developing communication and stakeholder engagement strategies, advocacy plans, media engagement etc. especially related to environmental issues required. - Working experience in a multicultural environment including United Nations is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Bahasa Indonesia is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
