You have:

Contract

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Communication Division communicates UNEP's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide.

The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 16 Small Island Developing States - with a population of about 588 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly of UN Environment (UNEA).

The UN Volunteer will be based at the UNEP Office in Panama City and work under the supervision of the Regional Communications Officer. The role of the UN Volunteer is that of an expert in translations from English to Spanish and a digital specialist in both web and social media.

Under the supervision of the Regional Communications Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Web  Ensures relevant content, such as stories, press releases, select speeches and publications, is translated from English to Spanish and posted in a timely manner;  Proofreads all content posted on the Spanish language website;  Coordinates review of existing Spanish-language sections of UNEP website to determine need for revision;  Updates content on UNEP Spanish website.

Social Media  Carries out social media strategy and execution plans for Spanish-speaking audiences;  Translates social media content from English to Spanish, including videos and graphics;  Maintains UNEP Spanish language social media channels, posting relevant and timely content and engaging with Spanish-speaking audiences;  Promotes UNEP’s work and messages to Spanish language stakeholders via support to communications and outreach activities;  Reviews statistics and analytics and adjusts/adapts content strategy to maximize reach;

Support  Support requests from Executive Director related to Spanish-language audiences and her official travel.  Stay abreast of rapidly changing technological advancements related to digital platforms and translation methods;  Participates in other Communication Division activities (training, meetings, workshops);
 Performs other related duties as assigned.

At least 3 years of experience in English-to-Spanish translations, coupled with extensive experience in web and social media management. • Excellent knowledge of social media and how to use it for strategic communication; • Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team; • Excellent organisational and planning skills. Proven ability to multitask and work successfully in a fast-paced environment, delivering desired results on deadline; • Proven ability to generate innovative solutions; • Languages and other skills: • Outstanding Spanish writing and editing skills; • Full command of English is essential; • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers receive a volunteer living allowance to sustain a basic, adequate and safe lifestyle. This allowance varies from one location to another depending on local living costs, but all national UN Volunteers in the same location receive the same allowance.
