Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The incumbent will be based at the UNEP Office in Beijing and work under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer. The role of the incumbent is that of an expert in translations from English to Chinese and a digital specialist in both web and social media.

The incumbent will perform the following functions: Web 1.Ensures relevant content, such as stories, press releases, select speeches and publications, is translated from English to Chinese and posted in a timely manner; 2.Proofreads all content posted on the Chinese language website; 3.Coordinates review of existing Chinese-language sections of UNEP website to determine need for revision; 4.Updates content on UNEP Chinese website.

Social Media 1.Carries out social media strategy and execution plans for Chinese-speaking audiences; 2.Translates social media content from English to Chinese, including videos and graphics; 3.Maintains UNEP Chinese language social media channels, posting relevant and timely content and engaging with Chinese-speaking audiences; 4.Promotes UNEP’s work and messages to Chinese language stakeholders via support to communications and outreach activities; 5.Reviews statistics and analytics and adjusts/adapts content strategy to maximize reach;

Support 1.Support requests from Executive Director related to Chinese-language audiences and her official travel. 2.Stay abreast of rapidly changing technological advancements related to digital platforms and translation methods; 3.Participates in other Communication Division activities (training, meetings, workshops);
4.Performs other related duties as assigned.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers receive a volunteer living allowance to sustain a basic, adequate and safe lifestyle. This allowance varies from one location to another depending on local living costs, but all national UN Volunteers in the same location receive the same allowance. Below is a summary of the Conditions of Service. Allowances The purpose of allowances for national UN Volunteers is to enable the national UN Volunteers to sustain a modest and secure standard of living at the duty station. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward or salary in exchange for the volunteer work. Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): All national UN Volunteers are entitled to a monthly volunteer living allowance of USD 1,952.49 The purpose of this allowance is to cover the basic living costs of the national UN Volunteer, and her or his family when applicable. The allowance is to ensure that the volunteer can sustain a basic, adequate and safe lifestyle. The monthly allowance rate is a fixed ra for the duty station as established by UNV headquarters. Resettlement allowance: Eligible national UN Volunteers are entitled to receive a resettlement allowance upon satisfactory completion of the assignment. The allowance assists the volunteer to reintegrate into society both professionally and personally upon completion of their UN Volunteer service.
