This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The UNICEF Office for the Eastern Caribbean Area is supporting the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) – Division of Gender and Child Affairs, to update data collected for the National Children’s Registry (NCR). The Division of Gender and Child Affairs has been entrusted with the responsibility to protect and monitor the growth, care and development of children in Trinidad and Tobago. Cabinet, by Minute No. 521 dates 8 March 2012, has recognised the need to establish a NCR, which is a government database that collects and manages information all children in the country. It will also allow for the collating, sharing and archiving of essential data and information, as well as report generation that would assist national planning. The NCR will be updated either by bulk data transfer or specially assigned data entry officers from the various government departments/institutions.

The UNV Coordinator, National Child Registry Digitizing Project will be supervised by the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, UNICEF ECA. Within the delegated authority, day-to-day tasks will be overseen by the Coordinator of Child Affairs, Division of Child and Gender Affairs, OPM or his/her designated mandated representative(s). A wide range of data-capturing and data processing activities to support the Digitizing Project will include:

• Data checks and validations • Review reports for accuracy and to support quality assurance • Analyse data and reports to identify trends and patterns • Assist in data management including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting • Support data entry into and retrieval of data from the NCR • Support continuous process optimization and data infrastructure improvements • Liaise and coordinate with staff in the Division of Gender and Child Affairs • Collaborate with stakeholders to support and advance date entry to the NCR • Network and collaborate with government partners to establish partnerships • Participate in field visits to schools, health institutions, etc. to collect data • Support the supervision of data entry interns • Coordinate data entry assignments for interns • Support the training of persons in use of the NCR • Provide troubleshooting support to persons utilizing NCR • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/expected outputs:

• As an active Division of Gender and Child Affairs team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to the Division and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of its functions, including: o Build a solid and sustainable network of contacts within key stakeholders in his/her professional environment, and work collaboratively with other members within the Division; o Demonstrate intellectual rigor and discipline and sound reasoning; o Manage the NCR database and help produce comprehensive analytical reports • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

Generally, living conditions are good in Trinidad and Tobago, however, crime and security should always be taken into account. Delays in clearing of shipments through customs may occur. TV, radio and internet services are readily available. Road conditions are reasonable but traffic congestion at peak times is an issue considering the limited road capacity for the number of vehicles circulating in the country.
