The UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Area is supporting the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Office of the Prime Minister – Gender and Child Affairs, to establish U -Report as a credible youth engagement platform in Trinidad and Tobago.

U-Report is a social monitoring tool designed for youth and other community members to strengthen community-led development, citizen engagement and access to and use of real-time monitoring and participation platforms. It allows youth and community members to speak out via social media channels – through polls and unsolicited messages – on what is happening in their communities. It provides a forum to amplify their voices through local and national media and acts as a citizen-sourced, real-time data point for key stakeholders, service providers and decision-makers about the issues being faced in communities. The platform also feeds back useful information to the U-Report participants, so they are empowered to work for change and improvements in their localities themselves.

Information collected through U-Report will feed into national youth policies and responses.

The UNV U Report Coordinator for Trinidad and Tobago will be imbedded in the Gender and Child Affairs department. Under the Direction of the Coordinator, Child Development in the Child Affairs Division, with support from the UNICEF Communication Specialist, the will UNV U Report Coordinator will:

• Network and coordinate with a range of partners – government, youth, development partners etc. – to establish U Report Trinidad and Tobago as a credible youth platform • Assist with the development of polls, info bots and other creative content aimed at keeping young people engaged and informed • Actively manage U Report Trinidad and Tobago’s social media platforms • Map potential partners who can contribute to the growth and substantiality of U Report Trinidad and Tobago. • Promote national youth engagement activities under the Generation Unlimited banner

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Coordinator, Child Development in the Child Affairs Division or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV U Report Coordinator will:

• Development/adaption/curation of social media creative content such as videos, text-based posts and other creative elements based on U-Report’s key messages • Conduct active community management on Facebook and Instagram • Promoting social media posts to increase following • Map potential partners (CSOs, youth groups, govt ministries, other public sector organisations) that can support in outreach, promote U-Report and Generation Unlimited and disseminate our messages • Help structure poll questions and contextualise them for Trinidad and Tobago’s youth (e.g., suggesting more youth friendly approaches/language etc). • Develop flows on RapidPro, the drag-and-drop software that allows building polls which are then launched through U-Report (training will be provided). • Plan and execute public events promoting the U-Report Platform in Trinidad and Tobago. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

At least 3 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in the field of youth, ICT, development, public/private partnerships

Generally, living conditions are good in Trinidad and Tobago, however, crime and security should always be taken into account. Delays in clearing of shipments through customs may occur. TV, radio and internet services are readily available. Road conditions are reasonable but traffic congestion at peak times is an issue considering the limited road capacity for the number of vehicles circulating in the country.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
