In the wake of thousands of people demanding an end to racism and inequality, UNICEF has made a commitment to ensure that UNICEF adopted a number of measures that would strengthen efforts to address the scourge of racism, discrimination and possible bias both in the communities in which it operates work, and in our workplace. As part of our response to the Global Staff Survey and the Independent Task Force Report, UNICEF Jordan is keen on hosting a workshop and/or a series of webinars on Overcoming Unconscious Bias. This is seen as a high priority by UNICEF and Jordan Country Office. A series of webinars and/or a workshop should take place in September 2021 with a focus on racial prejudice, age / disability discrimination, gender discrimination, or any other form of discrimination including favoritism.

How can you make a difference?

1. Pre Assessment & Preparation:

  • Familiarize themselves with UNICEF and Jordan Country Office Context.
  • Conduct a pre-assessment to identify key areas of focus
  • In consultation with HR Team and management, present agenda to be tailored to meet the requirements of the theme and expectations of staff taking into consideration Jordanian and Middle Eastern Context on Discrimination / Anti-Racism/ Bias.

2. Delivery:

  • Organize, prepare, manage and facilitate an integrated and interactive programme of activities extending over 2 days or various online workshops.

3. Evaluation:

  • Present a draft report for discussion with feedback on the event highlighting findings and recommendations

  • Provide the final version of the report to HR and Management

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Education: BA in Organizational Development, Business Management, Psychology or other related areas
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of proven experience in designing, delivering, facilitating discrimination workshops and office discussions at the regional and/or local country level
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

This position is not considered an elevated risk role. However, UNICEF reserves the right to conduct further vetting/ assessment within the scope of child safeguarding as appropriate.
