Job Description

Job Overview:

IRC's immigration legal services assists permanent residents to naturalize as U.S. citizens. Upon gaining their U.S. citizenship, the IRC has implemented a Civic Engagement Strategy whereby new citizens learn how to exercise their new rights and privileges, with an emphasis on voter registration. This position is part time, 10 hours per week, for one year.

Major Responsibilities:

- Provide new U.S. citizens with information about their newly acquired rights and privileges through text messaging platforms and handouts during office visits. - Assist new U.S. citizens to complete voter registration forms online and on paper. - Provide outreach to current and former clients to encourage them to participate in the Civic Engagement initiative. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date physical and electronic files of people served. Assist in the completion of statistical and narrative financial reports using a Word Template. - Maintain strict client confidentiality and observe all other ethical practices/obligations as outlined in IRC’s Immigration Program Policies Manual. - Manage intern and volunteer support as needed. - Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment with Limited English Proficient populations. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment. This includes adhering to established procedures, as well as taking independent initiative within established parameters. - Ability to maintain client confidentiality. - Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. - Ability to learn and use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Box, Teams). - Communicate with proficiency in written and spoken English. - Proficiency or fluency in written and spoken Swahili or Spanish strongly preferred. - Demonstrated dedication to immigrant rights, social justice, and/or human rights based on work or life experience, volunteer service, or educational activities.

Preferred experience & skills:

· Previous work or first-hand experience with immigration legal or social services.

· Familiarity with data entry and composing correspondence using the United States Standard keyboard.

· Community-based outreach and/or work promoting immigrant rights experience.

Working Environment:

· Standard office environment with opportunities to participate in community outreach and group assistance events.

· May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
