Morobe Development Foundation is seeking for 3 online volunteers with research expertise who has knowledge in GIS specifically Google Earth, Remote Sensing and other related GIS application.

Morobe Development Foundation (MDF) is undertaking a crucial sewage pond project to improve community health and environmental conditions in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Effective sewage management is vital for maintaining clean water sources and preventing the spread of waterborne diseases. To achieve this, MDF is leveraging advanced GIS technologies and remote sensing techniques to map and analyze the sewage pond and its surrounding areas.

The Online Volunteers' support is essential to successfully carry out this mapping and analysis task. By utilizing GIS technologies, the volunteers will provide critical insights into the current state of the sewage pond, enabling MDF to make informed decisions on its maintenance and improvement. The remote collaboration will allow MDF to tap into a diverse pool of expertise, ensuring comprehensive and accurate results.

MDF is conducting this remote sensing mapping and research to: (1) Monitor Changes Over Time: Identify changes in the sewage pond and its surrounding areas over the last 10 years, providing valuable data on environmental impacts and infrastructure development. (2) Support Sustainable Development: Use the findings to devise strategies for better sewage management, which will contribute to overall community health and environmental sustainability in PNG. (3) Utilization of Mapping Results: The results from this mapping project will be utilized by MDF to: - Improve Sewage Management: Implement targeted interventions to enhance the sewage pond's efficiency, reducing health risks and improving sanitation. - Inform Community Development Projects: Use the data to support community-driven initiatives, ensuring that development projects are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

This project aligns with several SDGs: - Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being: Ensuring healthy lives by reducing the risk of waterborne diseases through better sanitation practices. - Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation: Ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by improving sewage management systems. - Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities: Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by supporting community development projects.

By participating in this project, Online Volunteers will contribute to meaningful environmental and community development efforts, supporting MDF's mission to improve health and sustainability in PNG.

The three selected Online Volunteers will assist the Morobe Development Foundation (MDF) in mapping and using GIS to estimate the area and dimensions of a current sewage pond project. The volunteers will map the sewage pond and the study area, using GIS tools to calculate the pond's dimensions and volume.

Specifically, the Online Volunteers will:

(1) Conduct Literature Review - Review previous studies and reports on sewage management and GIS applications to gather relevant data and understand the context.

(2) Conduct Remote Sensing Mapping and Analysis: - Use remote sensing techniques, such as Landsat, to map the sewage pond and its surroundings. - Analyze changes in the sewage pond over the last 10 years to provide insights into environmental and infrastructure developments.

(3) Writing and Drafting Findings: - Compile the results of the mapping and analysis into a detailed report. - Provide recommendations for future interventions based on the findings.

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

Experience in GIS Mapping and Analysis: Candidates must have a strong background in research related to GIS mapping and analysis.

Educational Background: A Master's degree in GIS mapping or a related field is required.

Communication and Presentation Skills: Candidates must possess excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively collaborate and present findings.

Timely Completion: Candidates are expected to complete the assigned tasks within the indicated duration to be eligible for certification.
