Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

The Morobe Development Foundation Inc. (MDF) has started this research project to delve into the psychological factors influencing women's empowerment and societal standing. The core objective is to conduct a thorough literature review and compile online data that will shed light on the cognitive and emotional underpinnings shaping female empowerment, particularly in the context of Japan. We believe that the good cases in this region are also relevant to other developing regions, such as PNG. This study is pivotal in contributing to the understanding of gender dynamics and aiding the promotion of gender equality, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) on gender equality.

To that end, we are seeking to collaborate with Online Volunteers through this assignment. This collaboration will help us to understand the relationship between individual psychological influences and women's rights and their position in society, and whether these psychological dimensions are actually present or not. This study will also inform MDF on best practices for implementation in our community development projects and daily activities, such as encouragement of affirmative action, program support, psychological counseling, and women's affirmative action in the PNG, especially in the area of psychological services.

MDF seeks the support of Online Volunteers for this research project, each focusing on a key aspect of the literature review and data compilation. Project Supervision and Orientation:

Online Volunteers will be assigned to the following tasks:

  1. Literature Review in Psychology: Two Online Volunteers will be assigned to conduct a comprehensive review of psychological literature on female empowerment and social status, focusing on cognitive and emotional factors. Each volunteer will review 8–12 academic papers in peer-reviewed journals and relevant publications. At the end of the literature review, each volunteer will create a summary table that includes literature sources, main ideas, research methodology, key findings, and study limitations.

  2. Online Data Collection: Two Online Volunteers will be assigned to gather relevant quantitative and qualitative data from online sources. This includes: (1) Academic databases: Statistical data on women's empowerment indicators (e.g., labor force participation, education levels, political representation) (2) Social media analysis: Sentiment analysis and thematic patterns from public discussions on women's rights and gender equality (focusing on major platforms such as Twitter/X, Reddit, or relevant forums) (3) Official sources: Data from government agencies, international organizations (UN Women, World Bank), and specialized research institutions

The deliverable is a curated dataset that includes at least 5 to 8 data sources and, when appropriate, charts and graphs to show the data. Volunteers should be able to see clear trends, patterns, and how society feels about empowering women.

  1. Report Writing: Two Online Volunteers will be assigned to collaboratively write a comprehensive report of 2500 words based on the literature review and data collection results. The report will include: (1) Executive summary (2) Literature synthesis (3) Data analysis and interpretation (4) Key findings and insights (5) Recommendations for MDF's community development projects

One volunteer will concentrate on the literature synthesis and theoretical framework sections, while the other volunteer will concentrate on data analysis and recommendations. Both volunteers will collaborate on editing and finalizing the report to ensure coherence and quality.

Workload Distribution: This assignment structure ensures manageable workloads across all volunteers while maintaining research quality and enabling collaborative learning.

All Online Volunteers will report directly to the Research Coordinator at MDF. An orientation session will be conducted at the start of the assignment to introduce the project objectives, methodologies, and expected deliverables. Volunteers will collaborate via a shared virtual workspace (Google Drive/Workspace) to ensure coordination and knowledge sharing.

Publication and Citation: This research is intended for publication in academic journals focused on gender studies and development. All Online Volunteers will be appropriately cited for their contributions in any resulting publications.

Online Volunteer should have: - In-depth knowledge and understanding of psychological theories related to gender studies. - Demonstrated expertise in conducting literature reviews and online data research. - Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. - Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment. - Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English.
