The Online Volunteer will support the Morobe Development Foundation (MDF) in implementing a UNDP-supported community resilience project focused on sustainable infrastructure development and mangrove ecosystem restoration in coastal communities of Papua New Guinea. The assignment contributes to strengthening local capacity in climate adaptation, coastal protection, and environmentally sustainable design.
The Online Volunteer will provide technical support in planning and designing eco-friendly community facilities, integrating climate-resilient architecture and green building practices. Working under the guidance of MDF’s environmental team, the Online Volunteer will assist with training materials, awareness resources, and technical inputs related to mangrove rehabilitation, sustainable resource use, and biodiversity conservation.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities (Support Role):
- Assist in preparing materials for community training and awareness programs on mangrove rehabilitation and management.
- Support documentation and knowledge-sharing on the establishment of mangrove nurseries and planting activities.
- Contribute to monitoring templates and reporting on rehabilitation progress and ecological impacts.
- Help design outreach materials to engage schools, youth, and community leaders in conservation education.
- Provide technical inputs and background research on coastal protection, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable resource use.
Volunteer 1: Architectural Design Support The Online Volunteer will support MDF in the design and planning of sustainable community infrastructure that aligns with environmental and climate-resilient standards. The role focuses on providing technical input and design resources to assist MDF and local partners in developing eco-friendly facilities such as training centers, community halls, and coastal structures that strengthen environmental programs.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities (Support Role):
- Assist in developing design concepts and technical drawings for small-scale community infrastructure.
- Provide recommendations on incorporating climate-resilient, low-carbon, and locally appropriate materials in designs.
- Support MDF staff with guidance notes and checklists for site assessments and construction planning.
- Collaborate remotely with MDF project staff to ensure designs are inclusive and culturally sensitive.
- Contribute to awareness materials and knowledge-sharing resources on sustainable building practices.
Volunteer 2: Mangrove Rehabilitation Training Support The Online Volunteer will assist MDF’s environmental team in strengthening community capacity for mangrove ecosystem restoration, coastal protection, and climate adaptation.
