UNICEF has been operating in the Sultanate of Oman for over 50 years. The overarching goal of the 2022-25 Country Programme is “to support the Government to empower all children in Oman to realize their rights and participate equitably in building a knowledge-based society and competitive economy”, by

Outcome 1: Strengthening evidence-based policies for children, so that by 2025 improved public finance analysis, data and evidence are used to inform social policies and programmes for children, adolescents and young people, and progress towards the realization of the SDGs.

Outcome 2: Enhancing systems and services for children, adolescents and young people, so that all children, adolescents and young people in Oman, including those with disabilities, benefit from improved social service systems and services.

UNICEF believes that smart demand, supply and use of data drives better results for children, decisions can be better in­formed, more equitable, and more likely to protect children’s rights. Effective use of data can help us not just track results for children, but also shape those results with better insights about what’s working, what’s not, which children are thriving, and which are being left behind.

How can you make a difference during the internship program?

Under the supervision of the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, the intern will learn how to support the program department through the following:

The Data Assistant Intern will be expected to the below perform Key functions:

1. Develop a database for the main economic, social, and environmental data in Oman from national and international sources.

2. Support in identifying tools for knowledge management and sharing information on Social Behaviour Change best practices.

3. Assist in monitoring and analysis of key program performance based on the annual workplan activities.

4. Provide support in organizing the meetings with the governmental partners and missions in Oman, as applicable.

5. Other programme related tasks as requested.

Other tasks

- Undertake research tasks as needed

- Attend meetings with government as per the request of the supervisor

- Support documentation/minute-taking for internal / external meetings

- Draft letters to external stakeholders

- Support review of translated reports

- Provide logistical support with events as required

Qualifications required:

1. At least 18 years of age.

2. Studying Economics, statistics, Information System disciplines.

3. Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor.

4. Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother or sister) working in any UNICEF office.

5. Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to, and

6. Fluent in English.

The intern will be provided training on:

1. Prevention of sexual harassment and abuse of authority.

2. Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).

3. BSAFE.

4. Fraud Awareness.

5. Ethics and Integrity at UNICEF.

6. General Information Security Awareness.
