Result of Service

UNEP FI’s Impact & SDG Team is supported and able to deliver on its various simultaneous deliverables, in particular: the 2024 iteration of the Impact Protocol, the UNEP FI / ESRS Conversion Tool, as well as various R&D Projects conducted in the context of the IMP R&D work programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 400 banks, insurers and investors. For over 30 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future. The Impact & SDG Team is responsible for UNEP FI’s impact management methodology, uniquely based on a holistic consideration of the three pillars of sustainable development, and embodied in the Impact Protocol, the Impact Radar, a suite of Impact Mappings, Tools and Interoperability Resources. It works with the industry, thematic, and regional teams of UNEP FI, as well as a range of external partners, to normalize and mainstream holistic impact analysis and management in mainstream finance. More information available here: http://www.unepfi.org/positive-impact/ The Impact Management Platform (“Platform”) is a collaboration between the leading providers of sustainability standards and guidance. Through the Platform, these initiatives will continue to work together to identify opportunities to consolidate existing sustainability resources, collectively address gaps, and coordinate with policymakers and regulators to support the mainstreaming of impact management. The Platform is co-chaired by OECD and UNEP FI. UNEP FI’s Impact Team is seeking a Senior Advisor to support its various research and technical activities. Deliverables include: • Reviewed and provided inputs / recommendations on the UNEP FI / ESRS Conversion Tool • Reviewed and provided inputs / recommendations on the IMP R&D papers • Reviewed and provided inputs / recommendations on the V2 of the Impact Protocol • Reviewed and provided inputs / recommendations on the V2 of the Interlinkages Map Specific tasks and responsibilities This is an advisor role, with responsibilities focused on reviewing and providing expert inputs on specific deliverables. 1. Review of UNEP FI up-coming Impact Management resources: • Impact Protocol (V2) • Interlinkages Map (V2) • Aggregation and Disclosure Module of the Impact Analysis Tool for Banks (new) 2. Review of IMP R&D papers: • Industry Classifications • Sustainability Nomenclatures The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to the Impact Team Lead.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic background: A master’s degree in one of the following or related areas: economics, finance, business administration, commerce. Additional academic background in other, non-finance specific fields is relevant. A First degree could be taken in lieu of advanced degree provided the selected candidate has 12 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience: At least (10) ten years working experience in finance, with direct experience in corporate/investment banking, and with at least three years focusing on sustainability management. Significant experience in doing business in emerging markets and developing countries.

Languages

Languages: English is a working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset.

Additional Information

Skills & knowledge: Thorough understanding of banking and investment – origination, structuration and distribution of corporate finance products, KYC and credit analysis procedures. Thorough understanding of sustainability related procedures, in particular environmental and social risk management, and impact analysis. Strong analytical and conceptualization skills. Capacity to translate complex concepts into practical applications (for business).
