Overview

You have:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar position or within an international organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Translation (qualification: Translator).
  • Advanced proficiency (C1–C2) in English and Ukrainian; Russian is an asset.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid driving license category B with at least 3 years of driving experience and solid knowledge of Ukrainian traffic regulations.
  • High professional ethics and understanding of confidentiality principles.
  • Previous experience as a translator/interpreter with an HMA INGO.

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Translator in Mykolaiv.

About the job

The Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) Translator/Interpreter will provide high-quality translation and interpretation support to national and international DRC staff, government counterparts and other stakeholders. The role includes written and verbal translation during operational, training and coordination activities, as well as interpretation during counselling sessions, meetings, and field deployments.

The position also includes additional driving responsibilities, including transportation of the Technical Advisors (TA) and Technical Field Manager (TFM) as required. The role will support accurate communication and operational effectiveness across HMA/HDP teams and may involve deployment to field locations as part of mobile operations.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Provide verbal interpretation between national and international staff, government representatives and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and confidential interpretation during individual and group meetings, training sessions and operational briefings.
  • Prepare written translations of documents from Ukrainian and/or Russian into English and vice versa.
  • Interpret training materials, tools, and communications for HMA/HDP courses.
  • Be prepared to join HMA/HDP mobile teams and deploy to operational field locations when required.
  • Perform driving duties, including transportation of TA and TFM.
  • Ensure to establish and maintain communication with OPS room and Area South Safety sector.
  • Perform daily maintenance according to the driver’s manual and report any problems to DRC HDP TFM and DRC South Fleet Team.
  • Respond to urgent interpretation requests in coordination with the line manager.
  • Act in the interest of beneficiaries, ensuring respectful and sensitive communication.
  • Ensure adherence to the DRC Code of Conduct and safeguarding principles.
  • Ensure adherence to DRC Fleet, Safety and HMA Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the line manager in support of DRC’s operational objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have minimum 1 year of experience in a similar position or within an international organization, demonstrate strong communication skills, accuracy in translation and interpretation. Moreover, we also expect the following:

We offer

Contract length: 3 month probation period, with the possibility of extension based on funding and satisfactory performance.
