Two training manuals have been adapted from the Indashykirwa model couples curriculum and opinion leaders curriculum and produced in Arabic. In order to be used in a wider context both of these training manuals need to be translated back into English. The changes to the original materials are significant although the very original English documents can be used for reference. As some of the content and language is used in both manuals it will be easier for one translator to do both documents if possible. Knowledge of language and approaches to gender based violence, especially intimate partner violence, would be helpful. The couples curriculum is nearly 200 pages long although some of this is illustrations. The opinion leaders curriculum is approximately 140 pages. Ideally the couples curriculum should be translated first.

The Indashykirwa model is a community based approach to dealing with problems of gender based violence that was used originally in Rwanda. UNDP is currently working on 2 projects in the Arab region to integrate approaches to GBV into livelihoods projects. One project in Lebanon has adapted 2 parts of the Indashykirwa curriculum into Arabic. In order for the other project to build on this good work the 2 manuals need to be translated back into English in order for the project implementer to understand the differences that have been made and to see how to further adapt the programme to a different local context, if necessary. The translated materials will help the global community working on GBV to adapt and better use the Indashykirwa model to different contexts and will help propagate the good work done in Lebanon to a wider audience. Depending on the use of the translated documents and the quality of the translation it may be possible to acknowledge the translator in the English adapted versions.
