Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the Director-General of UNON is the representative of the Secretary-General in Kenya. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference, and information services (www.unon.org).

The advertised training consultancies are located in the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Talent Development Unit (TDU).

The trainers will report to the Chief of TDU and work under the daily supervision of the Staff Development Officer of TDU.

The trainers will:

a) Prepare session outlines and course plans: use specified materials to prepare session outlines and course plans and adjust them to take account lessons learned; and select/design appropriate supplementary activities.

b) Deliver interactive participatory training, online synchronous or face-to-face or hybrid as specified, and manage and monitor participants’ learning; manage instructor-learner interaction effectively; give clear instructions for individual and group work; provide effective individual feedback to the learners as needed, using various methods; use appropriate technology/software/training materials to enhance the learning experience; and select appropriate combination of techniques to suit learners and the learning situation. Keep an updated attendance records and submit a copy to the TDU administration office following each training event.

c) Support the conduct of evaluations: seek general feedback/comments/ recommendations from the participants; provide a short debrief/report to TDU following each training event (verbal is fine unless there is a specific incident that has happened, in that instance written feedback/reporting is required via an email); highlight that importance of participants completing the end of course evaluation form that will be circulated following the training.

d) Deliver training to support the Upgrading of Substantive and Technical Skills which includes but not limited to:

  1. Supervisory Skills training
  2. Leadership & Management Development
  3. Innovation
  4. Diversity & Inclusion and Psychological Safety
  5. Career Coaching
  6. Teambuilding
  7. Client Orientation
  8. Work-Life Balance
  9. Change Management - Prevention of prohibited conduct

Qualifications/special skills

University degree in human resource management or a related field is required.

  1. A minimum of four years training and facilitation experience is required
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogic and adult learning is desired
  3. Demonstrated experience in presentation and communication skills is desired
  4. Certification in UN approved course is desired

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the consultancy, fluency in oral and written English is required.
