What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

Under the supervision of the HR People Engagement Advisor and in close cooperation with a multidisciplinary HR Strategic Unit team, Communications Officer will contribute to designing, planning and delivering communication materials to support HR activities.

S/he will be exposed to personal and confidential information; in this capacity he-she is expected to maintain strict confidentiality on all HR-related data or issue, in respect of the ICRC Human Resources ethical guidelines.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Create items for internal communication (documents, infographics, presentations, videos, intranet sections) – write, design, edit.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the HR content with the subject matter experts, manage the reviews and updates.
  • Assists organization of workshops and all staff meetings.
  • Co-create and update communication plans and contribute to change strategies for HR projects.

Desired profile and skills

  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g. journalism, communications, marketing).
  • Excellent communication skills, fluency in English is required, French is an asset.
  • Track record in developing and delivering content.
  • Knowledge of current communication and tools, including digital platforms. Experience with content management system and visual design tools.
  • Creativity in writing and designing content.
  • Story telling skills.
  • Ability to analyse audience needs to propose best communication channels.
  • Adept in managing deadlines and producing outcomes.
  • Excellent customer-relations management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
