Established in 1948, the World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) is one of 6 Regional Offices globally that serves 22 Member States (including the occupied Palestinian territories). WHO seeks to promote health, ensure everyone can attain the highest level of health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable through partnerships, people and countries. Technical Officer will assist EMRO’s transformation unit in communication and building visibility on the transformation-related activities and outcomes and in overall related coordination. The UNV will contribute in moving the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Director’s Vision 2023: health for all, by all closer towards its objective, to make a measurable impact at country level.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Team Lead, Transformation or her designated mandated representative(s), the Technical Officer - Communication will:

• Assist in developing and implementing a communication and visibility plan of the transformation and providing support for the creation of communication products for internal and external visibility; a) Develop compelling stories and content, draft news and other articles on the issues related to transformation, conduct interviews and collect information for articles. b) Develop and produce social media promotions, design social media assets in various formats (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) on transformation related areas for greater engagement with the EMRO regional audience. Liaise with the Country Offices to seek and produce collaboratively material for external and internal visibility including photos and videos. c) Regularly update the WHO EMRO transformation web site and develop intranet on transformation. d) Develop messages and narrative for internal audiences also through the transformation change network. e) Support designing infographic presentations such as brochures, leaflets, PPTs for different purposes to gain visibility for the transformation. f) Actively propose innovative ideas with implementation plans to increase the visibility of transformative actions.

• Contribute to the organization of various events and meetings with different stakeholders on transformation including with the visibility plans; • Coordinate logistics, drafting event related documents and related visibility material, assist in preparing appealing presentations; • Support all the transformation team meetings at global, regional and country level particularly with visibility material and logistics: these include senior managers meetings on transformation global stock take meetings, regional change network meetings, townhall meetings etc. Act as a member of the secretariat for the Regional Transformation Team; • Provide support for collecting and organizing information related to the progress in implementing of the Regional transformation roadmap and prepare appealing presentations with infographics on the progress. Liaise with external providers such as design or media production companies; • Maintains knowledge management system on transformation; • Participates in selecting the information transmitted to key constituencies; • Assist in any other additional tasks that may be requested to ensure the success of the work of the team. This includes particularly assignments in drafting and contributing to briefing notes, speeches and talking points.

*Results/expected outputs: • As an active WHO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to WHO and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
- Increased visibility and involvement of staff on WHO transformation in EMRO. - Innovative and newer methods of improved outreach across country offices regarding transformation are implemented. • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
