Technical Director – Health and Nutrition Service

(This position is required for anticipated USAID Integrated Nutrition Activity (INA) and subject to funding approval and availability)

The Technical Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to all activities that FHI 360 will be required to carry out for nutrition under the USAID INA, with a specific focus on the quality and coverage of health and nutrition services. The Technical Director contributes to the design of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions, ensures the effective implementation, coordinates with government and non-government stakeholders, and contributes to monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) activities to ensure program effectiveness and impact. The Technical Director is will also work closely with USAID INA Nutrition, Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) team and MERL team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall design and implementation of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions.

  • Provide technical oversight and support to a team of technical specialists inclusive of Family Planning (FP)/Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), nutrition, pre-service education, quality assurance (QA)/quality improvement (QI), capacity strengthening and private sector engagement (PSE).

  • Manage short-term technical assistance through international and/or local consultants and ensure timely delivery with high quality.

  • Ensure the integration of Gender and Inclusive Development (GID) principles into nutrition and health services at different levels.

  • Develop, manage and maintain coordination and collaboration with other consortium leads and partners, as well as relevant government, non-government and private sector stakeholders.

  • Liaise with FHI 360 Headquarters and regional nutrition and PSE experts to ensure timely high-quality inputs.

  • Contribute to development, implementation and monitoring of annual work plans and budget in timely manner.

  • Contribute to the preparation of program reports, monthly updates, other necessary technical and programmatic documents and documentation of successes, lessons learned and good practice.

  • Represent FHI 360 in external functions as needed at the federal level.

  • Serve as a member of the FHI 360 Nepal Senior Leadership Team and provide input and assistance to the management of the country program, develop country program strategy, business plans, operational plans and budgets.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by INA Chief of Party and/or Deputy Chief Party and FHI 360 Nepal Office Country Director.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in public health, behavioral and social sciences, or a related field with seven to nine years of experience in managing public health programs (nutrition preferred), or a bachelor's degree with over nine years of experience as mentioned above.

  • Experience and understanding of the national nutrition program components and implementation requirements.

  • Understanding and experience of Health System Strengthening (HSS) tools and methodologies, as well as experience in applying HSS approaches in program design and implementation.

  • Experience in working in an international non-governmental organization managing diverse team to implement public health programs—preferably with a focus on nutrition program.

  • Experience in leadership in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and partnerships with consortium partners and major stakeholders.

  • Experience in overseeing all aspects of projects preferably large donor-funded, including program and financial management, human resources, compliance, and quality assurance.

  • Experience in negotiating annual work plans and guiding program, technical, financial and administrative teams to complete objectives/activities on time within budget while meeting high quality standards.

  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open to managing time for working with different teams in different time zones as needed.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, coordination and collaboration, team building and management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
