The online volunteers will support the Nature for Development team in translating, from English to Nepali, documents related to the use of spatial data, global datasets on biodiversity and country maps. This work will support the preparation and smooth management of the Mapping Nature for People and Planet Workshop which will occur in early 2021 in Nepal. The documents to be translated include, but are not limited to: concept notes, invitations, agendas, logistics packages, and final report. Knowledge about biodiversity, ecosystem services and spatial data tools is an asset, but not a requirement. The Online Volunteers will translate (app.) 10,000 words.

In October 2019, the first Mapping Nature for People and Planet workshop was held in Costa Rica, co-hosted by UNDP Nature for Development, UNDP CO Costa Rica, and the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica. The purpose of this workshop was to determine what ecosystems are absolutely essential for biodiversity conservation, climate, and sustainable development, and how those ecosystems should be protected, managed and restored, in order to safeguard essential ecosystem services. It was also an occasion to create a bridge between decision-makers and the science team to launch the project. A similar workshop will be replicated in Nepal in early 2021, involving the most relevant national stakeholders. Therefore, it is essential that all the supporting materials - agenda, invitations, concept notes, etc. - are translated from English to Nepali.

  • Volunteers: 10 needed

  • 1-5 hours per week / 8 weeks

It is an asset, but not a requirement, that the online volunteers have previous experience in translating official documents from English to Nepali. Knowledge of biodiversity, spatial data and mapping system is also an asset. The translator must be willing to work in a team of two, be responsive and strictly respect the deadlines.
