Overview

Support the Civic Space programme in Tunisia through capacity building and advocacy efforts.

You have:

  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, human rights, development studies, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in the field of human rights, civil society engagement, or advocacy.
  • Prior experience working with international organizations or UN agencies is desirable.
  • Experience in drafting reports activity summaries, or case studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing or delivering capacity-building activities for civil society actors.
  • Fluency in French and Arabic (written and spoken) is required.
  • Knowledge of English is an asset.

Result of Service

As a result of the consultant’s contribution to OHCHR Tunisia’s civic space programme, Civil society actors in Tunisia will be demonstrably more empowered, knowledgeable, and effectively engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights. The following outcomes are expected: - Enhanced technical capacity of a diverse range of civil society actors (CSAs), through targeted capacity-building initiatives in areas such as human rights advocacy, documentation, engagement with UN mechanisms, and digital security. - Increased and more meaningful participation of civil society actors in national and international human rights processes, including in public decision-making and consultations facilitated by OHCHR and other UN partners. - Strengthened protection and expansion of civic space, through improved coordination between OHCHR and civil society. - Improved documentation, analysis, and reporting of civic space activities, leading to better-informed programming and advocacy strategies by OHCHR and partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Programme implementation support: o Identify, solicit, a diversity (thematic, geographic) CSAs to realise outputs of the civic space programme in the 2025 Tunisia Country Office workplan. o Support partners substantively with human rights expertise and administratively (i.e. UN administrative requirements) in these activities. 2. Capacity-building and training: o Develop, deliver, and support training for CSOs on a diversity of topics (e.g. human rights advocacy, documentation/reporting, engagement with mechanisms, digital security, etc.) 3. Promote participation : o Convene outreach and consultations, to support the work of OHCHR colleagues. o Support organization of commemoration of key UN observances with CSOs. o Support development of outreach initiatives. 4. Documentation and reporting: o Support statistical collection of CSA engagement (e.g. meetings, communications issued, participants' genders, etc.) o Draft activity reports, case studies, and best practices to document program outcomes. o Contribute donor reports and communication materials.
