Contract
This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.
Morobe Development Foundation Inc. is a not-for-profit organization based in Papua New Guinea and was established to promote sustainable community development initiatives and thereby address several exigent issues – ranging from environmental conservation to women's rights – that are hindering the progress of the country. Few of our ongoing projects focus on applications of various state-of-the-art technologies (such as remote sensing and machine learning) for monitoring forest biomass, tracking land use, land change patterns, evaluate climate change impacts, and conserve sea turtle habitats.
To continue MDF's mission in carrying the abovementioned projects, MDF requires support in grant writing where the grants will allow MDF to expand its partnership and scientific outreach activities (e.g., publications); and extensively to reach out to more potential donors based in the US.
Further, this assignment will also support MDF to acquire grants to implement projects in areas of environmental conservation and sustainability (where MDF has undertaken several projects in the past couple of years) and the takeaways from these globally focused endeavors would be streamlined to serve the needs of PNG communities. Some of our recent publications can be found here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=p-SeWuYAAAAJ&view_op=list_works
To that end, we are currently looking for two Online Volunteers with experience in grant/report/article writing, who can help us in grant writing related to the topics “forest carbon markets” and “reforestation, afforestation and forest conservation”. The Online Volunteers are expected to dedicate approximately 20 hours per week to carry this assignment.
Morobe Development Foundation Inc. is looking into collaborating with a partner NGO based in California, USA on projects related to forest conservation. In that regard, MDF is seeking the support of 2 Online Volunteers who have expertise in grant/report/article writing with a background from the field of Forestry, Climate Change, Remote Sensing, Ecology, Social science, or any related fields.
Selected Online Volunteers are expected to work under the supervision of subject experts carrying the following tasks: i) conduct a literature survey on selected topics ii) research about gaps in existing environmental policies iii) shortlist funding opportunities, and iv) help with writing grant proposals.
We will also be working on peer-reviewed journal article(s) in parallel, and based on the level of contributions, the Online Volunteers would be acknowledged and/or invited to be co-author. The Online Volunteers will also be awarded with certificate of appreciation.
Among the 2 volunteers, the tasks will be split into: a) research in certain areas: who could conduct research on business models related to forestry and agricultural products and could provide subject-specific inputs; b) proposal writing: whose core focus will be on writing grant drafts, communicating with the MDF staff, and meeting the deadlines;
- The ideal candidates should have demonstrated skills in report/grant/article writing and have a Master’s degree or equivalent (e.g. bachelor's degree with 3+ years) in an area related to Forestry, Climate Change, Remote Sensing, Ecology, or other related fields.
- Must have good communication and be very attentive, responsive, and proactive, as our projects are fast-paced. -While filling out your application, under the “motivation” section, please elaborate on your writing and research skills and explain why you would be the best candidate for this role.
