Job Profile

The position aims to provide strategic support at the national level to ensure that research requirements of the organization are served, compliant to industry standards among civil society and academic sectors, to effectively communicate impact of World Vision Lanka (WVL) programmes in the lives of children, families and communities it serves. To ascertain the research requirement and scope for the successful implementation of the technical programmes and explore and support research activities under emerging themes in the Development space aligning to WVL’s strategic objectives. This position also entails collaborations (as appropriate), with external clients, partners and stakeholders, thereby, creating an evidence base for WVL's work and preserving its institutional memory and knowledge.

Major Responsibilities

  • Implementation of research strategy and action plan to support programme decision making
  • Develop a coherent and realistic annual research outcome, with defined operational and implementation plans.
  • Facilitates the improvement and/or adjustment of business processes within and/or between teams for effective flow of data, information and knowledge products.
  • Conduct consultations with departments and/or units’ teams to identify knowledge gaps, and facilitates the development of corresponding interventions and tools to address such gaps
  • Execution of high-quality research
  • Lead data collection process involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare complete documentation of all the procedures done from planning to research report writing
  • Prepare abridged version or briefs of the research studies appropriately tailored to the target audience
  • Facilitate the process of setting department wise annual/bi-annual/quarterly learning and sharing plans
  • Present/Publish research findings at national and international forums with the objective of strengthening WVL’s programming and strategic focus
  • Support Research Officers to meet 80% annual goals and within set time-schedule.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • 4 years of experience in developmental research, including conceptual research methodology, policy analysis, policy-based development programming, impact evaluation methodology, and qualitative research with a Master’s Degree in Natural or Social Sciences, with a track record of independent research work showcasing the ability for critical analysis and practical application of specialist knowledge.
  • 7 years of experience in developmental research, including conceptual research methodology, policy analysis, policy-based development programming, impact evaluation methodology, and qualitative research with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Social Sciences, with a track record of independent research work showcasing the ability for critical analysis and practical application of specialist knowledge.
  • Comprehensive training in research methodology
  • Expertise in collating and evaluating collected raw data.
  • Verbal and written communications in English, Sinhala and/or Tamil
  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time
