You have:

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience at a mid level, preferably with experience in the field of humanitarian response and refugee protection working for an international NGO, UN agency, relevant ministry, or local authority.
  • Knowledge of Turkish Building Seismic Code of 2018
  • Practical experience in sector area working for an NGO is desirable
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, as an engineer in charge of construction projects or similar
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • Excellent skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Skills in GIS software and AutoCAD are an asset
  • Fluent Turkish or Arabic

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for emergency employee as Shelter Officer.

About the Job

The Shelter Officer will support the Emergency Team through direct implementation of field activities, and provide technical guidance on all shelter related assistance whether directly or through in kind and voucher/cash assistance in the affected areas of the Türkiye Earthquake. This role will include planning and designing all specification and procedures at the area level, liaising with relevant governmental bodies at a local level.

These activities will focus on immediate, life-saving interventions during acute crisis within the areas through different assistance modalities (in kind, cash, voucher or a combination) for Shelter, NFI and WASH. They will cover all stages of project cycle management from programme design to implementation and monitoring and evaluation. Further activities will focus on recovery and support to long-term solution for the population affected by the earthquake

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks.

Provides administrative support within sector area as per sector deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Programming & Operations

  • Ensure efficient and effective program implementation while following the budget and work plan
  • Provide technical support and inputs on all shelter activities
  • Ensure effective planning and quality implementation of the sector/support activities
  • Follow and ensure the quality of the teams daily activities

Coordination and Representation

  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on sector relevant issues
  • Represent DRC at local level meetings and other relevant technical coordination meetings
  • Ensure integration with other DRC sectors

Project Development

  • Deliver against project tools, plans, and budgets for funding
  • Support project implementation, reporting and evaluation

Logistics & Finance

  • Support the monitoring of financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-up
  • Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movements of staff from and to different operational areas
  • Initiate procurements and ensure their execution

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have a relevant degree/diploma in, civil engineering, urban Planning, architecture or another relevant field.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
