You have:

  • Advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Psychology, Human Resources, or Organizational Development.
  • 12+ years of experience in leadership and organizational development.
  • 6+ years of coaching experience with senior clients.
  • ICF certified coach or related qualifications.
  • Experience working with psychometric assessments, certification in tools such as Integrative Enneagram and EQ 2.0 is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating interactive workshops.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and good working knowledge of a second UN language (preferably French, Spanish, or Arabic).

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

To support this mission, WFP is seeking team coaches to support the leadership development work of the Career Management Branch (HRCM), of the Human Resources Division. The work of this branch strongly influences WFP’s approach to people management, and in turn, plays a key role in WFP’s overall effectiveness.

ACCOUNTABITLITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership development is a priority for WFP and, as a result, it has implemented several successful leadership programmes. Now, as the organisation faces increasing volatility and complexity, leadership teams are looking for ways to build more resilience and collaboration so that they can continue to deliver WFP Strategic Plans. Existing leadership development has predominantly taken a self-leadership path. However, several policies and practices in the organisation require more systemic approaches, for example the WFP people policy, leadership framework (competency model), and values. The HRCM branch is proposing a senior leadership teams effectiveness programme to help increase the impact of existing efforts and further support leadership development.

As part of this proposal, we are looking for senior team coaches who will help with the design and delivery of this programme. Individuals will join a pool of other experienced external team coaches with a track record of working with senior multidisciplinary leadership teams facing complex and challenging situations.

The Senior Team Effectiveness Coach will:

  • Carry out diagnostic and coaching conversations with team leaders and members to maximise successful implementation of the programme
  • Conduct psychometric assessments and debrief feedback for teams and individuals
  • Synthesise team themes to design and build interventions suited to the specific needs of teams facing different challenges
  • Coach and facilitate face-to-face team effectiveness workshops for WFP regional/country teams, in country or sometimes online (where travel restrictions apply)
  • Support the process by providing a safe space for team leaders to:
    • Review their team's development journey
    • Reflect on their own leadership in relation to their team’s development and operational needs, and commit to the team development process
  • Partner with other team coaches in the execution of their duties
  • Propose and contribute to innovative approaches to enhance team effectiveness
  • Reflect, question, and share experiences and relevant resources related to systemic change; shared leadership and leading inclusive teams; co-creation with stakeholders for systems change
  • Work with the central leadership development team and other team coaches to codify good design and practice gathered from experience delivering
  • Critically analyse their own performance and employ practices to improve
  • Report back achievements and pitfalls identified along the way

DELIVERABLES:

  1. Provide an analysis of the initial team climate through assessment and conversations with key stakeholders in each team
  2. Support the design and production of workshop materials
  3. Propose and agree a team effectiveness approach with key stakeholders prior to delivery
  4. Deliver an appropriate team effectiveness intervention for each team contracted with
  5. Make sure that each team has a clear path forward to sustain progress made
  6. Produce and submit a brief written evaluation for each team
  7. Feedback key results to the central leadership development team to monitor progress and support the transfer of lessons learned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Advanced university degree. Psychology (Organisation or Clinical), Human Resources, Organizational Design, and Development, Social Sciences, Learning, and Development or related field desirable

Experience:

  • 12+ years of experience in leadership and organisation development, and facilitation at the senior leadership level
  • 6 years + of coaching with senior clients
  • ICF certified coach or related qualifications
  • Experience working with psychometric assessment. Certification in Integrative Enneagram and EQ 2.0, other best-practice team and organization culture related assessment is an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience in working for an international company/organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating interactive and engaging workshops and training sessions
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and coaching team-based interventions that are based on systems thinking or related theories and models
  • Work experience in the UN System is desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exception coaching, design, and facilitation skills
  • Understanding and application of systemic approaches to team and organisation development
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Excellent intercultural competence and interpersonal skills to collaborate and influence across different levels and diverse teams in the organization
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, as well as gender-sensitive and cross-cultural competency

Strong creative problem-solving skills; agile, flexible, and patience; ability to work with ambiguity, constructive approach to overcoming challenges, and build consensus across diverse and global teams

Languages:

Excellent knowledge of English. Good working knowledge of a second UN language preferably French, Spanish or Arabic is desirable.
