Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global voice on the environment. UNEP Climate Change Division (Mitigation Branch) implements the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), which exists to provide open, reliable and actionable data to the individuals with the agency to reduce methane emissions. IMEO integrates various sources of empirical methane emissions data, including data from the oil and gas companies participating in the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), a comprehensive reporting framework for methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. OGMP 2.0 member companies will report on methane emissions levels from all material sources across the entire oil and gas value chain, including both operated and non-operated assets. A consultant with expertise on global oil and gas assets is needed to lead OGMP 2.0 data analysis.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic - University degree in engineering, economics or a relevant field to understanding oil and gas assets Professional Experience - At least ten years of relevant work experience with oil and gas asset data - Expertise in oil and gas assets data and/or markets research. Skills - Strong quantitative skills and experience in performing rigorous analyses; - Demonstrated skill in synthesizing primary research; - Ability to summarize and translate technical data appropriately for a variety of audiences; - Excellent written and oral communication skills, - Experience with database and GIS software, - Experience using or building oil and gas asset data and gas flow software (e.g., Rystad, Envereus, IHS, etc.) - Ability to work independently and support a multi-disciplinary team, using independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment, - Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.

Languages

  • For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Additional languages are an asset.

Additional Information

The consultant will: 1) Lead the review, analysis, and aggregation of OGMP 2.0 companies’ annual reports: a. Lead the review of the methane emissions reported at asset-level and source-level data from oil and gas companies’ operated and non-operated assets reported to the OGMP 2.0; b. Lead the review for completeness of data reported, and consistency with reporting framework and relevant approved technical guidance documents; c. Lead the analysis of companies’ performance target commitment, compare to UNEP-recommended targets and document progress; d. Provide feedback to the OGMP2.0 companies on their reporting. 2) Identify and oversee the compilation of data trends on methane emissions (main sources, regions, selected countries factsheets, gap analysis) 3) Conduct an audit of the OGMP 2.0 data platform and develop recommendations for improvement 4) Oversee the development of data analysis tools and quality assurance protocols for data analysis.
