Result of Service

The consultant will contribute to the successful delivery of Cool Coalition 2030 Global Cooling Pledge / Global Cooling Watch Implementation Strategy and 2024-2026 Work Plan as well as the completion of the Cool Coalition country project activities. Communicating key insights, messages, and best practices online and offline is essential to the delivery of the strategy, workplan, and associated initiatives. A consultant with expertise in communication including website content management, story writing, and social media and with excellent communications and writing skills is needed to support the UNEP Cool Coalition Secretariat team in the delivery of these efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will contribute to outreach and communication efforts of the Cool Coalition and of its catalytic projects on passive cooling and extreme heat, cold chain finance and NCAPs/NDCs globally. This will include the following: 1. Support developing a communications strategy for the Cool Coalition in line with its workplan and strategy 2. Support outreach & engagement & event activities of the Cool Coalition and associated communication collateral 3. Support website content for both Cool Coalition and UNEP on Cool Coalition and its catalytic projects. 4. Develop engaging stories and short news pieces for both Cool Coalition, its working groups, and its catalytic projects. 5. Develop social media content for both Cool Coalition, its working groups, and its catalytic projects. 6. Support member coordination and collaboration efforts in particular related to the Global Cooling Pledge implementation strategy and with national counterparts, project partners and technical experts. 7. Support draft concept notes, agendas and briefings for outreach and communications activities. 8. Perform other tasks as may be requested by the Programme Manager- Cool Coalition and Advocacy and Communications Lead as related to cooling. .

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in communication, journalism, or related field. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Training and/or experience in social media content development is required. Specialization in a field related to environment and/or sustainable cooling and extreme heat is a plus. Training in videography and design is a plus. At least 3 years of experience in the field of communication including social media or related field; Experience of working with international organizations is an asset; Experience with sustainable cooling or extreme heat initiatives is an asset. Strong communication and writing skills in English is required. Fluency in French is desirable. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
