Contract
This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.
Located in Papua New Guinea, Hela is a newly established province that shares a mountainous northern border with Enga Province, the northernmost end of Southern Highlands Province, and borders Western and Sandaun Provinces, coupled with a rugged mountain range and gorge running through the middle. The province comprises three districts: Komo/Magarima, Koroba/Kopiago, and Tari/Pori. There are 12 LLGs in the province. In 2011, the population was about 249,449, with a growth rate of 2.7% from 2000. The province accounted for 3.4% of PNG’s total population. Komo/Magarima District is the most populated district, comprising 39% of the population, followed by Tari/Pori (32%), and Koroba/Kopiago (30%). Of this population, there are about 41,059 school-age children (6-14 years old) in the province in 2019.
The assignment is related to MDF's vision and objective to support the community throughout Papua New Guinea, moreover, the assignment supports UN SDGs in ''Clean Water and Sanitation'' and this project will ensure quality water is distributed to the areas concerned.
MDF is carrying out research to identify water aquifers for the four district hospitals for the four districts in Hela Province. This involves the use of a resistivity metre to identify the water zone and the testing of water in the four district hospitals, getting GPS readings, and identifying the general vegetation to pinpoint the exact spot where the drilling spot to extract water for the community in the project site can be located.
The data attained from this research will be presented to the District Health Management team as well as the local-level government officials, who will then propose drilling to take place at the selected site recommended by MDF PNG.
The volunteers needed in this project will help in carrying out literature reviews and assist MDF in identifying the soil structure, the tremor zones, and the geology of the area to assist MDF in this research.
MDF requires the support of three Online Volunteers who will carry out environmental research and geographical research on Hela Province located in Papua New Guinea. The three Online Volunteers will be responsible for compiling all the two reports and submitting the report to MDF PNG.
The First Online Volunteer will be responsible for the literature review research. The Second Online Volunteer will analyze the data captured by MDF in the field. The Third Online Volunteer will review, proofread, and finalize all the data captured.
After the task is complete, the volunteers will receive certification from the UNV under the supervision of a focal contact person for MDF. The volunteers will also be issued a reference from MDF PNG.
Experience in water quality research, remote sensing and and geology. Report writing, report reviewing and proofreading. Editing and compiling journals and scientific reports. Excellent communication skills and ability to meet the project`s set deadline.
