The UNOPS Information Technology Group (ITG) unit is focused on innovation and harnessing cutting-edge technology to deliver solutions to UNOPS that truly address business needs.

ITG’s goal is to provide greater effectiveness, efficiency, and differentiation to UNOPS products and services. UNOPS IT Group is responsible for architecting, designing, delivering, and managing all UNOPS IT infrastructure and business applications. The unit includes Enterprise Architects, Business Analysts, Solutions Designers, Developers and QA Testers from all around the world who are based primarily in Denmark and Thailand.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Product Manager, the Reporting Team Lead will manage the Reporting Team, helping them, and the wider organisation, to achieve the organisation’s stated goals of data driven decision making, data literacy and reporting excellence. The Reporting Team Lead will be a key participant in arriving at strategic decisions that address these goals, to coordinate the team's activities, facilitate the team members personal development, interact with stakeholders and have a hands-on technical role.

The Reporting Team Lead will perform the following functions:

1. Provides functional and technical expertise to the Reporting function:

  • Works with the product manager to prioritize work, provide estimates, gather and document requirements, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Provides advice and support to the product manager as well as stakeholders in and outside ITG on reporting-related matters.
  • Works with ITG Architectural functions to create, evolve and document best practices as well as standards for change management, data modelling, release processes, reporting, testing etc.
  • Works with architectural functions to design reporting structures as well as ETL activities.
  • Coordinates with internal ITG functions to evaluate and control costs of reporting products and to evaluate and improve performance of reporting products.
  • Works closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs, identify opportunities and translate their requirements into technical solutions.

2. Provides leadership and management of the reporting team:- Acts as a mentor for the team and provides expert guidance to the team on relevant functional and technical matters. - Embeds a spirit of learning and continuous development within the team to ensure continued professionalisation of services provided and fine-tuning of professional craftsmanship - Sets team objectives, performance measurements, standards and results expected to ensure timely and client focused services. Ensures effective use of the teams resources, both human and technical. - Establishes team priorities, and supervise the implementation of work plans and the team's use of appropriate team productivity tools - such as JIRA. - Promotes teamwork and collaboration by providing the team with clear direction, objectives and guidance to enable them to perform their duties responsibly, effectively and efficiently - Fosters a positive work environment, respectful of both men and women, and ensure that the highest standards of conduct are observe

3. Engages in design and Implementation: - Responsible for implementing solutions. - Responsible for implementing testing regimes to ensure that the solutions are functioning as expected. - Leads technical design sessions and guide the team in creating solution designs that meet the requirements. - Leads the design of efficient and performant query plans, partitioning and indexing to ensure that reports and dashboards are running smoothly and quickly. - Leads the design of report and dashboard presentations, ensuring that they are visually appealing and easy to understand. - Leads the design of report and dashboard presentations. - Undertakes code reviews, to ensure that the code is written to a high standard and meets best practices.

4. Embeds relevant knowledge management and communication within the ITG team as well as across the organisation: - Contributes to the development of internal capacity across the organization in the area of Reporting. - Constantly monitors and evaluates UNOPS policies, procedures, methods, tools and associated systems to ensure its utility, applicability and efficacy. - Leads / organises training and awareness / showcasing events and design / set training agendas to build capacity of stakeholders across the business. - Ensure the creation and maintenance of appropriate documentation. - Briefs senior stakeholders within the IT Group as and when required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education - Master’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology and Information Systems or other relevant discipline is required. - A Bachelor’s degree in combination with additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of master’s degree. - Secondary education in combination with additional six years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree

Experience - Minimum 5 years of professional experience in reporting and analytics-related technologies (relational, document, and graph databases, data warehouses, ETL / ELT engines / platforms, data visualisation platforms) is required.

  • Within the 5 years of experience required, a minimum of :

    • 2 years in a team management role is required.
    • 2 years of experience in partnering with a broad range of stakeholders to understand business needs, formulating solutions and influencing is required.
  • Expert level ANSI SQL skills are required.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing reporting architecture is required
  • Experience with Google BigQuery required, including specific knowledge of working with columnar data stores and key features such as nested records is required
  • Experience with Google Data Studio will be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience with developing reporting and analytics applications / functionality within large and complex enterprise IT environments would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience with document and graph databases will be a distinct advantage.

Language requirements - Full working knowledge of English is essential. - Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is an asset
