UNICEF offers the opportunity for summer interns, talented university students, to gain valuable professional experience while being exposed to UNICEF's work. Knowledge management (KM) has become more important in UNICEF with the recent endorsement of the Global Knowledge Management Medium-Term Strategy (2021-2022). KM, defined as the 'management of generation, sharing, and use of knowledge for better performance and results', is connected to all areas of UNICEF's work and is instrumental in identifying and scaling up good practices and results. Knowledge is one of UNICEF's greatest assets in delivering results for children. UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories and has unparalleled evidence and knowledge on children's issues, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. Harnessing these assets towards effective programming and policy advocacy is critical to accelerating results and achieving UNICEF’s aims as the trusted global knowledge leader for children. Several countries, including Turkey, are working towards operationalizing the global KM vision of effectively utilizing knowledge to achieve results for children and to support them in fulfilling their rights.

The intern in the education section of the UNICEF Turkey Country Office (TCO) will provide specific support to the enhancement of the education KM architecture and to the improved information and knowledge base available to the TCO and education teams regionally and globally through the development of various knowledge products. These knowledge products will contribute to implementing the global UNICEF Education Strategy 2019-2030 and, more specifically, support resource mobilization and implementation of the priorities of the TCO’s new country programme strategy 2021-2025.

Under the supervision of the Education Specialist (Strategic Planning and Knowledge Management), the UNICEF Education Section in the Turkey Country Office is seeking the assistance of an intern to support and contribute to general and specific tasks related to programmatic activities as listed below (in agreement with the supervisor other functions can be carried out):

• Develop a succinct fact sheet on the education section's priorities in the new country programme 2021-2025.
• Develop two-pager programme fact sheets for key priority areas in the TCO education country programme strategy 2021-2025.
• Using a systematic approach to capture good practices and UNICEF's applied case-study approach, develop case studies related to key education programmes in Turkey to explain evidence and lessons learned on what works and what does not in education programming.
• Develop visual cards (using applications like Canva) and summaries for each new case study developed for Yammer or other online platforms.
• Support the Education Specialist and KM team on any other matters as required.

1. DELIVERABLES

• One (1) succinct fact sheet on the education section's priorities in the new country programme 2021-2025 developed.
• Four (2) two-pager programme fact sheets for key priority areas in the UNICEF Turkey education country programme 2021-2025 developed.
• Two (2) case studies related to key education programmes in UNICEF Turkey developed.
• At least two (2) visual cards with a summary for each new case study for use on Yammer or other online platforms developed

Duty Station:

The internship assignment will be home-based. No travel is required.

Duration:

The duration of the internship will be for three months, with flexibility on the start date of the internship.

Remote - Full-time

Stipend:

In accordance to UNICEF's guidelines, interns will be paid a nominal stipend per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or PhD degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in an education-related field, social sciences field, or development studies. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• A strong understanding of current international development issues, especially in education.
• Fluency in English, with strong writing skills. Fluency in another official and working language of the UN would be an asset.
• Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
• Additional consideration will be given for any past experience in related fields.
