Cari Makan, which is Bahasa Malaysia for "search for livelihood" (literally, looking to eat), is a public-facing publication on the lived experience of COVID-19 in Malaysia. The publication explores the experiences of different personas, showing how the pandemic has impacted different segments of society differently, and looks to make sustainable development tangible to the Malaysian public. The publication is available at bit.ly/cari-makan.

The launch event for Cari Makan is targeted at stakeholders in various sustainable development issues as well as the general public. UNDP wants to make this an avenue for stakeholders and citizens to provide perspectives and direct recommendations in four thematic areas: work and livelihoods, vulnerabilities, art and education, and health and environment. Each thematic area will be explored through a series of four dialogue sessions, hosted by conversation-partners working in that area. Each dialogue session will be an hour, featuring a reading of an excerpt from Cari Makan and a reflection by the conversation-partner, followed by open dialogue with the audience. The dialogue sessions will be recorded and published as a podcast series for further comments and public engagement. UNDP will use the findings from this dialogue to engage the Malaysian government on crisis response, humanitarian support preparedness planning, and strengthening of institutions and their interfaces at all levels.

The volunteer will serve as a rapporteur for a public dialogue event accompanying the launch of a UNDP publication, Cari Makan, on the lived experience of sustainable development during the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. There will be four tracks of public dialogue: work and livelihoods; vulnerability; art and education; and health and environment. Each volunteer will document one track, consisting of four 1-hour dialogue sessions on various topics within each track.

The event will be held on November 24th, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Malaysia time (GMT+8). The event will be recorded, so the volunteer may attend the live session or use the recording. The volunteer will produce a full report of the four sessions assigned, to inform UNDP engagement with Malaysian government actors. The volunteer will also write a summary of about 250 words targeted at a public audience.

Previous experience as a rapporteur is a requirement. Please describe your previous experiences as a rapporteur and submit a sample of your work. Fluency in English is a requirement, and proficiency with Bahasa Malaysia will be advantageous.
