In June 2019, the United Nations (UN) Secretary General launched the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS), which provides the foundation for sustainable and transformative progress on disability inclusion through all pillars of the UN work. The policy establishes the highest levels of commitment and a vision for the UN system on disability inclusion and enables the UN system to support the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other instruments such as the Agenda for Humanity, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Through the Strategy, the UN System will systematically embed the rights of persons with disabilities into its work, both externally, through programming, and internally, through its leadership, operation, and organizational culture. All United Nations Country Teams (UNCT) globally shall implement the UNDIS. The UNCT-Iran has recently established an inter-agency disability inclusion taskforce and conducted a disability inclusion scorecard to measure its performance on the UNDIS implementation. Following the completion of the said scorecard, a 42-activity Action Plan for 2022-2023 has been developed to strengthen mainstreaming of disability inclusion across all areas of the UNCT work, such as programming, procurement and human resources, communications, and advocacy.

Under the direct supervision of the RCO Team Leader and guidance of the RCO Associate Coordination Officer, the individual Consultant will undertake the following tasks: 1. Provide effective support to the UNCT, RCO, UN-Iran UNDAF Results Groups, inter-agency groups and task forces, UN agencies responsible for the implementation of their respective activities of the UNCT Disability Inclusion Action Plan for 2022-2023. 2. Support the coordination of the inter-agency coordination mechanism – UNCT Task Force on disability - to review, plan for, monitor and address actions outlined in the UNCT Action Plan for 2022-2023. 3. Support drafting of various internal reports, and other documents related to the activities within the UNCT Disability Inclusion Action Plan. 4. Conduct research and provide inputs to ensure disability inclusion in the Common Country Analysis, UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, Country Results Report, Business Operation Strategy, and other UN-Iran documents. 5. Provide support to OMT Chair and Vice-Chair on the disability inclusion component in the UN-Iran Business Operations Strategy. 6. Provide administrative and logistical support and arrangements in preparing events under the UNCT Disability Inclusion Action Plan for 2022-2023 in cooperation with the relevant UN staff. 7. Conduct outreach with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and facilitate linkages between the UN and OPDs on work related to disability inclusion 8. In collaboration with UN agencies, facilitate UNCT wide trainings and discussions on disability inclusion. 9. Provide regular updates to RC and UNCT on the progress of the UNCT Disability Inclusion Action Plan implementation, including challenges and opportunities to further enhance disability inclusion in UN-Iran.

Education: A Master’s degree in one of the following fields: law, humanities, sustainable development, social sciences, or related area is a mandatory requirement, or A Bachelor’s degree and four years of the relevant experience is accepted in lieu of the master’s degree. Experience: - At least three years of experience in sustainable development, international relations, or communication at national or international levels is required. - Work experience with disability inclusion or related support programmes/projects and collaboration with the organizations of people with disabilities. - Knowledge of the CRPD and human rights-based approach. Language and other skills: - Proficient in written and oral English - Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, internet, PowerPoint and experience in handling of web-based management systems. - Excellent interpersonal skills, proven networking, team- building, organizational and communication skills. - Knowledge of UN and related procedures, principles and past experience with the UN is an asset.
