MDF intends to address the increasing population growth, logging and industrial-scale monocultures that have contributed to a loss in biomass and forest cover especially in Kamiali Wildlife Management Area (KWMA). The rate and impact of un-controlled harvesting of low altitude trees for various purposes. To find out the rate and impact of changes in average air temperature and sea level due to climate change. The vulnerability of rural subsistence communities to the impacts of climate change and the capacity of those communities to adapt to such impacts.

This exercise contributes to the Sustainable development goal 13: Climate action. It adds knowledge to find best practical ways to fight effects of climate change in the KWMA such as the impact of sedimentation in the Bitoi river due to natural and anthropogenic causes, f) the impact of mining operations within the protected area on air and water quality, and on the health of flora and fauna, h) the maintenance of the status of Kamiali Wildlife Management Area as a gazette protected area, under National Government special management protection as provided by the National Conservation Area Act 1978.

The task involves risk assessment and impact on the project site. The Online Volunteer is required to assess and give advice on ways numerous projects and activities can affect the environment, especially the local villages and the entire eco-system of Kamiali Wildlife Management Area located on Lababia Island in the Huon Gulf District in Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea.

The other volunteer needed is required to use latest landscaping and mapping technology to scan and give accurate feedbacks and data on the terrain and general geography of the project site.

The task involves accessing archived satellite images of the Kamiali Wildlife Management Area (KWMA). The volunteer is expected to use LIDAR, Landsat 8 and Landsat 5 surface reflectance data will be accessed and processed to explore the spatial pattern of land cover changes and shoreline dynamics over the past twenty years. At this stage, the Google Earth Engine cloud-based data platform and ArcGIS software will be used in this stage.

We need two experienced volunteer in the field of Environmental Engineering. The ideal candidate must be an expert in environmental research methods including exceptional knowledge and technical skills in data mapping, and expert in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
